When DC sleeps at inlaws, do you give them food?

This is the third time DD will be sleeping at my in laws (she's 14 months.)
It seems like everything they have is from a can or box so I usually send her with some fruit & veggies.
I don't mind, I just thought they might get some stuff if they know she will be there.
They probably think I'm being annoying about stressing the fresh foods but she's still young.
Just wondering what other people you.

my DD stays at ILs frequently, and the way i see it, as long as they feed her i am happy. not that they wouldn't, but a night at grandmas is just that, a night out. whatever goes, goes.

when she is there, she can eat what she wants and stay up as late as she wants. as long as she is happy and making memories with them, then so be it.

same goes when she is with my aunt & cousins. making memories is all that is important.

IL's will get the food we want if we tell them what he eats specifically.......

My mom amd mil weren't great about having baby foods or snacks (baby food, puffs, Cheerios, that sort of thing) , but now that they're older, they do stock some snacks for the boys. Both houses usually have home cooked dinners, so no worries there. Sometimes I will send little things like edamame because no one else buys it, but my kids love it. Sometimes the kids will even ask to bring something specific from home- usually more of a treat then food.Chat Icon

DS had a severe egg allergy up until the age of 25 months. Anytime he stayed with either my parents or my IL's, I always brought my own food. I specifically requested that they don't give him anything to eat other than what I provided. That was strictly due to his allergy, though, and I really onle started doing it after my MIL almost seved him EGG noodles because "they weren't made with the yolk". Chat Icon Chat Icon (he had a severe whole-egg allergy).

Had he not had the allergy, I most likely would not have provided my own food if he was on table foot at that point.

DD hasn't slept at MIL's yet but she's stayed at my parents a few times.

When she was an infant and on breast milk, formula, cereal and baby food then yes, I brought all the food she would eat while there. As she got older I brought less and my mom would go out and buy some other foods for her (organic chicken and fruits/veg), I usually provide snacks.

I wouldn't go nuts though if she didn't buy those things. We eat out at restaurants and go to family parties/bbq's and I know nothing there is organic but she still eats it. I try to do as much healthy/organic as I can but I feel that you can go overboard with worry. I don't mind if she has "bad" food here and there, within limits of course. DD is 18 mo and still hasn't drank anything besides filtered water and milk (organic 99% of the time).

Re: When DC sleeps at inlaws, do you give them food?

My mom watches him during the week, but he's never slept overnight there. So it's a bit different.

However, I've always provided food for my DS and he's 3 now. Because it's a daily thing, I feel it's my responsibility to provide his food, not theirs.

But even if it was a once in a while thing, and he was spending the night, I'd still send him with the types of food he eats for dinner.

My mom is VERY good about having all the foods her grandchildren like to eat in her house whenever they come over (she has 8 of them). One grandson only eats turkey burgers, the other drinks chocolate milk daily. She makes special trips to the store just for them.

When my kids were that age, I usually sent snack type stuff as my IL's keep their house Glutten Free, Dairy Free, Sugar Free for my SILs kids.

Other than that, I never sent food. Now I don't even send snack stuff except for cheerios which my 3.5 y/o and 2 y/o still eat like they are going out of style!

DS hasn't yet but I DEFINTIELY will if I EVER do allow a sleep over. My inlaws eat terribly, they have candy bowls all over the place....including the bedroom where my niece and nephew sleep when they stay over and allow my nephew to walk around with the entire bag of chips ahoy "because he's thin".

I always send food. At this age, I don't think it's their responsibility to figure out what and how much she should eat.

Not to mention that they're likely doing us a favor so I like to make it as easy as possible.
