Cry It Out
Did/do you let your kid(s) cry it out? If yes, at what age did you start? how long did it take for them to sleep through the night? And, what exactly did you do? (not go in their room at all, go in at increasingi ntervals, etc). If they wake in the middle of the night, crying, what do you do?

Cry It Out
We never did CIO with either of our boys. Both of them slept in their cribs in their own room from the beginning.

Cry It Out
i dont really do it but my DD sleeps in her crib. once in a while i do but she never ever cries more than 3 minutes. thats the benefit of a thumb sucker - immediate self soothing.

Re: Cry It Out
We did CIO with DS when he was about 10 months old. He suddenly wanted nothing to do with sleeping in his crib, even though he had been there since he was a month old. It took 3 nights to get him back on a schedule.

Re: Cry It Out
I said 15+ mo but we may have started a bit earlier than that. When DD was an infant I was totallly against it. Now we'll let her fuss/cry a bit at nap or bedtime if she's having one of those days. She normally just lays down and goes to sleep when we put her in her crib though (thank God!). When she does cry, I let her do 5ish minutes then go in and rock her for a few mins then put her back in the crib. Sometimes we do this a few times (like last night). It never normally takes more than 3 times of going in and rocking her. I am willing to let her cry a bit but I don't want her to feel abandoned or that we don't care.

Re: Cry It Out
My son isn't one of thsoe cry for 3 -10 mins type of babies....I tried that. He threw up and was a sweaty mess after 10 mins.
Not for every baby, certainly not mine.

Re: Cry It Out
We tried it at 6.5m. DS was still waking up around 4 am so the first night he cried for 45 mins but we stood firm. He eventually fell back asleep until 6-6:30. The second night, he cried for 15-20 mins... fell asleep. The third night he only cried for maybe 5 mins and then magically, that was it! He has STTN every single night since then and he just turned 2 a few days ago. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but for us it worked wonders. IMO, it can't hurt to try! It is very difficult to listen to them cry, but they will never remember it, they will not be traumatized and it is only helping THEM in the long run.

Re: Cry It Out
I did it at 7 months when we moved DS into his crib. I did full blown CIO, did not go in there at all.
The first night was a good hour , 2nd night was about 20 min's, 3rd about 10 and by the 4th night we would put him in his crib, say goodnight, close the door and not a peep
He wook up the first few night several times and again, we just let him CIO.
It's not easy BY FAR....but we knew he was ok, he was not sick and it's something we had to break & never looked back and he did not remember a thing.

Re: Cry It Out
Absolutely! It was the ONLY way I could get my DS to sleep. I did it with both my boys. DS2 was the most recent and I did it at 9 months. It really took about 2 nights and he slept through the night since. I was SHOCKED b/c he is VERY stubborn! I started with naptime and once he put himself to sleep for his nap (even though he still cried, but I knew he could put himself to sleep) we moved on to the middle of the night wakings. It was not as bad as I had imagined by far and is/was the best thing I have ever done for my whole family.
