Kids at a Baby Shower...with poll

I think girls over a certain age are fine (I would say 8ish) when they are family. Other than that, I don't think kids of random guests would be invited because of costs. I personally don't mind if little ones are there -- I told my sister she could feel free to bring my 2 nephews (2 1/2 & ~9 mo at my shower).

If you're closer than close with this girl, I would be annoyed. I have a friend from work who just had a baby and if she wants to bring him to my shower, I think it will be fine!

I personally think it depends on the kids age; and the location of the shower. If the shower were at someone's home or a rented hall-for my circle of friends/family it's common to bring your kids. But if it were at a restaurant then I say leave the kids home.

Since the Mom to be said no-they probably just want it to be adults; perhaps it's at a place they're paying per person.

I"m of the mindset that kids do not belong at a baby shower. A home shower I can maybe understand since you can keep the kids "busy" in another part of the house is need be. If it's at a restaurant, then I think kids belong at home. The mom can enjoy themselves without worrying about their child.

If there is absolutely no other way for that mom to attend, then I could decide on a case-by-case basis. A baby that is a couple months old? Not a big deal. A 4 year old that will get bored and tear up the place easily? Hell no.

Re: Kids at a Baby Shower...with poll

We had a big problem with this at my shower. My cousin kept insisting that she bring her daughter to the shower but my sister and mother decided no kids. I personally didn't care but my mom was the one paying the bill and she said no. I think once your kid is old enough to require a meal it's kind of rude to ask if you can bring him/her to a shower when it's been made clear that kids aren't allowed. I agree with the PP that said if it's at someone house it's more acceptable than if it's at a restaurant.

I don't feel that kids belong at showers, unless they are nieces or a flower girl. The day should be about the bride or mother to be. Also, almost all restaurants charge for kids and I don't think the host should have to pay extra. I'm sorry, this is just my honest opinion.

ETA the other problem is, when you allow one mother to bring her child, then every other mother is going to be thinking why did she get to bring hers and I wasn't invited to bring mine.

It's really a personal preference as others have said. I did not have kids at my baby shower. I didn't want them there.

I voted other. My baby shower is actually tomorrow and I am one of the last of my friends to have a baby. I would never stipulate on an invite that children were not invited....however, I don't think that it's a receipe for success. 1-3 year olds are not going to sit through a shower, they will be bored and make it miserable for their parents.

That said, if any of my friends had asked to bring their kids I would have said yes.

I say no. At any adult party, who wants kids running around. It's about the mother-to-be, not everyone else's children. The kids open your gifts, fight, cry, etc. I've seen it! However, ofcourse, no matter what you say people will always do what they want, so you are always guaranteed to have a few kids.

I would say that kids as welcome, as long as the invite says so. If not, then thats the hosts prerogative, but I do think a baby shower is more kid-acceptable.

I think it depends on where the shower is. At a restaurant, toddlers running around would be a problem. At someone's home, though, it's different. It's up to the hosts and/or guest of honor.

We had children at my baby shower, but it was in my home (and pretty small). When I brought DD upstairs after lunch towards the end of another friend's baby shower that was out at a restaurant, it would've been a disaster to have her along for more than 15 minutes. She was running all over, distracting everyone, I had to keep chasing her and picking her up, and she was just bored. Immobile children are different -- I don't think that's a big deal at all to bring a child under 6 m or something, especially if it's the only way the mom can attend.

It's not shocking to me. People have preferences. Could be they don't want to have kids running around touching things or getting in the way. I can't fault people for that.

I never assume. If they say no I make arrangements. If they don't mind/say it is ok, I'll bring DS if I know my cousins kids will be there (etc) or if I really have no one to watch him.

I think close family is okay. But usually, at the showers I've been to, most women don't bring their children.

I would never bring my kids to a shower unless I was personally told by the guest of honor that they wanted them to be there. I did this for a close friend of the family for her bridal shower bc She wanted them there.

I only has my 5 year old god daughter at mine. I would have understood if someone traveling from oot would need to bring their dc
