Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Our lease is going to be up soon and I am contemplating keeping what I have now (but newer model) or getting something different.

A lot of the ladies I work with drive this and I like the way it looks.

What are the pros/cons if you have one?

Any dealerships you would recommend? I live right by Security in Amityville.

DH is nervous with the Jeep because my parents are older and he feels they might have difficulty getting in and out of it.

How is it on gas?

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I love my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before my DH got his new car we had 2 JCGs- a 2006 and 2007. I have the 2007 now.
Its the perfect size for me and drives so well. We haven't had any problems with it.

As far as gas- its pretty much like any other SUV, not so great on gas.

My cousin Jenn is a manager there.

I have a jeep GC. It's not great on gas, but it's much better than what I'm driving now.

I've had quite a few problems with the car. I think it was partly due to my REALLY crappy mechanic. I think he caused most of the problems honestly, (never fixed the correct parts) which I just recently figured out after finally breaking down and getting it serviced by jeep.

Most people love jeep and say that they're great. My DH drives it now and he likes it a lot.

Sorry if I'm no help. Lol.

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We have a2012 Grand Cherokee and I really love it!

I would get the side steps to make getting in and out easier.

I think it is good on gas - then again we had a Hemi engine before this, so I may just be use to the bigger $$ it took to fill that up.

I feel like you can get a lot of options without donig a model upgrade.

We went to Bayside Chrysler and worked with Eddie - he was great!!

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I have a 2007 gc from Security Dodge and I would not recommend them but I would recommend the Jeep. We use it for "jeep" stuff all the time. We tow our boat with it, large garage sale finds, bj purchases, double stroller and two kids, on and on. Terrible on gas but we knew that going in to it...it was the best car to fit all our needs so we were ok with the gas issue.

As for Security Dodge..ugh. Within the month that I bought it the engine light went on so I took it to them since it was under warranty. They told me the light itself was broken and replaced it. Then the car started changing gears even though it's not a manual so I'd be on Merrick rd going 40 and I would be stuck at one speed and hit the gas all the way to the floor and I wouldn't be able to accelerate then minutes later I would fly. It was very scary. I kept taking it back and each time they would keep it for days, no loaner car and tell me it was this or that but it was never fix. I got the impression that they knew the issue and kept trying to avoid fixing it until my warranty expired. Turns out it was an issue very common with the grand Cherokee and luckily dh found out about it and had to fight with the guy to fix it. They wanted to charge us $900. Finally they fixed it. We even got our oil changed their once and they put the wrong size filter on, it was just shoved in. We started taking it to a local guy in the fire dept with dh and he told us these issues and said to go back and don't pay since they are covered under warranty. I think it's horrible what they did. They live in our small town and are heavily involved in the community but to f-over neighbors like that is disgusting.

We have a 99 and I absolutely love it. It's over 100,000 miles and still runs amazing. Brown's in Patchogue is great if you're looking for a good dealership!

Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We just got a 2012 JGC about a month ago and we love it! We used to have a Toyota Highlander and the Jeep is much higher..I feel like I have to climb in, but we got the upgrade which I think comes with larger tires. It also uses more gas! From empty it cost about $90 to fill the tank and lasts about a week and a half with me driving it about 25 min to work and back each day and driving it anywhere we go on the weekends.

Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I have a 2011 and I love it. This is my third GC and I've never had a problem with any of them. Gas isn't great but it's better than my last one and it's Flexfuel so you can put the E85 in it. I would definitely get the running boards if you are on the short side. This is the only thing I wish I negotiated for. I'm 5'0 and it's hard for me to get in and it's even harder to get the car seat in. As for Security, I would never buy a car from them!! I went there with this one and they gave me a price and then when I went to sign the paperwork it went up by $300 a month!! They are shady and I don't trust their maintenance dept. either. I would check out Atlantic (formerly Herbee) on Sunrise in West Islip or Town & Country in Hicksville. Good Luck!!

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We have a Jeep GC and I don't love it. Yes they look nice but I wouldn't get one again (and I wanted a Jeep for a long time).

The problem a previous poster had is probably the electronic shift module. Ours went and we had to pay $800. It's a common problem with Jeeps. The car is also a gas guzzler.

I don't think it's really roomy either. Other cars have a larger cargo space and roomier seating. The one plus is that it handles off road driving well. We inadvertantly went down a wrong path while driving somewhere and ran into rocky, unpaved roads, rocky as with boulders and we were ok.

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

If you only plan on keeping the truck for a few years, look at the Jeep Wrangler.

The Wrangler was picked the #1 vechicle this year that holds its value more than any other make/model/car/truck/etc. Wrangler holds its value better than any Honda, Toyota, BMW, anything.

Wranglers (new) can also be bought for under dealer invoice. It's the best of both worlds (incredibly cheap to buy new, yet you get way over book value on your trade in). Lastest reports I am seeing is about 2% under dealer invoice for a new 2013 Wrangler.

On the other hand, every other Jeep in general has historially poor resale value.

Granted the Wrangler isn't as "luxurious" as the Grand Cherokee... but IMO its a way cooler truck overall.

With that said if you still want to look at other Jeeps, you can basically get any Jeep out there for under invoice (and i'm talking invoice, not MSRP). The money off MSRP is usually around 2500-3500 PLUS any factory incentives. Don't let any dealer tell you otherwise.

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Thanks everyone.

I have heard about lots of problems like you ladies described from a variety of sources.

That's why I hesitate about getting a Jeep as well.

I also don't think we would do the Wrangler because I don't see that as a "family" vehicle at all.

It already costs me between $60-$70 to fill up and sometimes I need to drive a lot in one week so I don't know if I want to deal with the extra fuel cost either.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will at least take a test drive.

I know that tends to be one of the biggest determining factors.

I've had my 2012 since March and *knock on wood* have had no problems. Only thing I hate is the gas, although that is also bc my previous car was an 08 Jetta. I wanted a truck for the 4W drive and also the space with my DD. Trunk is good also, holds my 2 strollers, booster seat and still has room for groceries.

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

We just got it and I really like it so far. I don't know if you have children, but my major complaint is the non removable headrests in the back seat makes my DD's carseat kind of lean forward. Her poor head is always flopping down when she falls asleep.

Re: Anyone have a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I know a few guys I work with have them (and their wives). They love them, and among American built SUV's, they are rated one of the safest in crashes and rollovers. The gas mileage will depend upon upon which motor you opt for.

I have one and I LOVE it!!! Like a few others said, the gas mileage is typical of an SUV. That's the one thing I don't like. I love the way it drives and the overall comfort of the interior is great.

Security Dodge was a nightmare to deal with. I would recommend trying another Jeep dealer.
