Sending DS "away" for the first time
My ILs watch DS for me M-Th while I am at work.
They are going away to France in August for 10 days, and my parents have offered to take him up to their house about 2.5 hrs away during that time (for as long as he'll stay).
On one hand, I CANNOT wait, but on the other, I'm kind of having a hard time with it.
He's 3.5. They have all kinds of fun things planned for him, plus my sister will probably stay at their house for a few days too (she lives about 20 minutes away).
I also think they are kind of hoping this will turn into a new "tradition" for him.
Has anyone else done this? At what age?

Sending DS
LOL since 9m?
But Last year was the first year we made it official type thing. She stays the whole summer.
This is her third year doing this. She'll be 4 in August.

Sending DS
During the summers we normally get her back on weekends but not always. Sometimes we need that weekend for something (this year two weekends we left her for guest arriving cleaning & home improvements, etc, last year it was just home improvements, year before it was buying the house and moving in)
I call my aunt every single day.
Summer 2010 She was 1 going onto 2. Back then we’d go ‘visit’ once a week.
Summer 2011 she was 2 going on to 3 and being potty trained. We stopped the visits midway because of the commute and the fact it bothered her as she wanted to come home. Everyone suffered. I would call and ask for her but she never wanted the phone.
Summer 2012 3.5 going on 4 we don’t visit. She’s wise enough to ask me to take her home. But she’s also big enough to be happy with my aunt. They have a ton of fun. She’s old enough to talk to me and tell me about her day on the phone. Its great for everyone. She waves goodbye to them on Friday nights (tonight) with lots of love, kisses and ‘be good, I’ll see you in a few days”. HAHA
We are down to our last week for this summer session. We pick her up tonight then she’s back there for 3 days M-W then home Thursday – Friday at school/home then she’s at school M-T next week then back at Auntie’s W-F then officially school begins full force Aug 13 – 5 days a week back home and still my aunt takes her on Weekends. Because AJ likes to go, my aunt loves her and wants her and occasionally we need a weekend, but mostly I struggle to KEEP my kid on weekends without offending my Aunt! Ha!

Re: Sending DS "away" for the first time
Thanks. I am sure it will be fine. I am going to be working, and I think DH and I will both get involved with our own hobbies in the evening/weekend and I am sure he'll be back before we know it!
