How do you buy toddler shoes? (In terms of sizes)
We went to the stride ride outlet and they measured my DS as at least a 5 1/2W so we bought him a size 6W sneaker. The girl said, "Oh by the time the fall hits, he'll be a 7".
He's 13 months now. If I see something on sale, I'd want to pick it up but do you just go whole size to whole size? (For example, would he go right into a size 7 next because they grow so quick or would you buy a 6 1/2 size?)

Honestly, my answer stinks but, i wouldn't buy in advance. My ds's foot grew so quickly the he jumped a size and a half in about 6 months when we first bought him shoes.

I bought DS shoes in Novemeber he measured a 5 bought a 5 1/2 at the suggestion of the sales person. He is probably a 5 1/2 now. 8 months later.

Ditto. To me it's not worth the savings if it doesn't fit when the time comes to wear it.
They change so quickly and each child is so different in how fast or slow they grow- it's nearly impossible to predict.

I try to remember to have him sized before I buy every pair of shoes fir the new season. I have him sized in a store and then purchase something on line.

I buy what I need at the moment and buy the correct size for that time. I don't buy shoes for a later time. You never know how fast their foot will grow.
I had DS measured in May. He was almost a size 9. Had him measured last week, he is now a size 10. He virtually skipped an entire size. We have gone throught shoes like crazy these past few months, his foot is growing so fast. About to buy his 3rd pair of sneakers for the season

This So much cheaper online. Now I just go up a size when I see his foot is growing.

Re: How do you buy toddler shoes? (In terms of sizes)
I never buy based on the lady's prediction. Who knows how my kid's foot will or won't grow. She had a HUGE growth spurt once and jumped through a size wthout even giving me a chance to buy more than one pair. I size her up, there, I buy maybe a half size over her true size (aka what they would have recommended anyway for right there and then) but that's it. In 6m she's due for another season shoe anyway or school or the ones she has have been destroyed.
My aunt got her some 8's when she was a 6 because they were on a great sale. Well at size 7 she thought she was nearly the right size and couldn't weight. Well at 7 1/2 we went in and she jumped to a size 8 1/2 to 9. My aunt was crushed! But ironically the 8's still fit.

I buy when we need them - I have a DS with a slow growing foot (he's 2 1/2 and a size 6 1/2 right now).
I also find that lace sneakers are a better option for me because if they are a little big, you can make them tighter. A salesman at a Stride Rite store sold me size 5 velcro shoes and they kept on falling off DS - it was so frustrating. So I got him a pair of size 5 with laces and they stayed on nicely.

Re: How do you buy toddler shoes? (In terms of sizes)
I never buy in advance at this age - it changes too fast. My daughter was recently measured similar sizing so if this helps you....I had my daughter measured the end of April (14 mos) and was a 5/5.5. By end of May (15 mos) she measured a 6. She is starting to burst out of her size 5.5/6 shoes now at end of July (17 mos).

Re: How do you buy toddler shoes? (In terms of sizes)
i never bought ahead for DD unless it was something timeless that could be used year round. her feet dont grow fast...although she surprised me once around 3.5 she had a major growth spurt and grew a shoe size from April to Sept. which was not normal for her.

Re: How do you buy toddler shoes? (In terms of sizes)
I am going to echo the other posters who said for shoes don't buy ahead no matter what the savings might be. I got DD a pair of sneakers in mid June for the summer. She wore them for one month and I had to get her new sneakers in mid July because her foot grew. The only way I would get new shoes is if you got the exact same pair in the next half size up, but that is really risky. A few years ago when DS was just about 2, I had purchased shoes for him and two weeks later he went up a full size and a half. I only buy clothing in advance.

I have to go there soon. Did you go to the one in Deer Park?

HI K!
We went to the Riverhead Outlets--we are in between Deer Park and Riverhead but usually go out east. The girl who measured him was helpful, and I was previously trying to get him into much smaller shoes so I'm glad I had him measured. We ended up with Saucony sneakers from there, and I'm hoping they last for the $35 we paid. They did have a few things on sale but not in his size. They seem sturdy and go on him easily.
