Mommy's of DC Under 1 -- and BTDT Moms- Please COme In!
I am just wondering what kinds of organized activities you have all done/are doing for your little ones between 6mos- 12 mos. I am looking to "sign up" DD who is 7 months old for some mommy and me (in my case since Im a FTWM, mostly grandma and me ) type actvities/classes starting in September.
Which ones have you tried and which do you recommend?
I have tried to do a couple of the library programs with DD but they are all scheduled during her morning nap time --10:30-- I figure most kids her age take their morning nap at that time so I am not sure why they make so many of the classes at that time-- has anyone else experienced this??
Thanks ladies.. I know you always have great ideas and experiences!

Personally, I tried a gymboree type thing at 12 months & it was too early at that age for MY son. I didn't really want him in too much because he put everything in his mouth & would always get sick.
I'm doing gymboree now that he's 2. He loves it & has learned a lot.

I do not think I am signing DS up for anything. He is in daycare 2 days a weeks and i feel like he is getting variety there.

Mommy's of DC Under 1 -- and BTDT Moms- Please COme In!
Last summer, when DD was 3 and 4 months old, we did the libraries all over the place..this summer she is 15 mo and we do one library morning, she has 2 daycare mornings and one day with grandma and I taking her wherever..if programs come up (check town webpages, there are free concerts, etc.) we do those, too...as for Gymboree, I tried it during the school year once and was not impressed, but that's me...if a program was great, I would see if I could shift naptime a bit...

I work all week and DD is watched in our house so she doesn't have much interaction with other kids. I started at Saf-T-Swim with our DD when she was 4 months old with one-on-one instruction to get her used to the pool and then signed up for Mommy n Me classes immediately after that. We took a break for the Summer but I plan on starting up again at the end of September.
We also did Music Together starting when she was 5 months, which she absolutely loves. They don't have weekend classes over the Summer so we will start again in September. I have brought her to a couple of classes at the library but they don't have many classes at my library on the weekends. Our sitter brought her to the library a few times also.
I am going to look into the 1-3 year program at the Y when she is old enough.

Thanks! I have heard good things about Music Together and I am planning to sign her up for Music Together in September.. once their schedule is available. I am homeon fridays so I am hoping for a friday class but would also like to sign her up for some stuff during the week for my mom to take her too bc as DD is getting older I feel like she needs more interaction with other kids and not to just be home with my mom all day long!
Which mommy and me classes did you do? I wasthinking of signing her up for swim classes but probably will end up doing it next summer- for now the 3 inch deep splish splash pool in the backyard will haveto do ahaha

I didn't reply to the poll, because we didn't do any mommy&me classes until he was about 15 months. I wanted to wait until he was fully walking and didn't have to be carried everywhere.
We did My Gym from 15 mos - 21 mos.
I've heard good things about Music Together for babies.

If you are going to do Mommy and Me swim classes they start you out in the first level which covers holding the babies on their backs and fronts, putting them on kick-boards and eventually putting them under water. The next level up is called "under the sea" I believe, which we will do in September. We went to Saf-T-Swim in Deer Park and her two instructors were great.

DD1 started Music Together at 5 months. We also did Library Mommy and Me classes once in awhile. DD2 started Music Together at 2 months (because I still bring DD1).

I did a swim class with DS but, I didn't do anything else because it didn't fit into my schedule/his nap schedule.

We started library classes and Little Gym when he was about 6 months. He loves them both, and they are very different from each other which is nice.
For the summer we are doing Music Together instead of Little Gym, and he loves those classes also.

We did The Little Gym in Merrick when he was right around a year, maybe just under. Absolutely loved it!

Thanks for this! I feel like kids that are in daycare definitly get the interaction and activity automatically that these programs offer. Since my LO is home, I kind of want to supplement, her activities.
Thanks Ladies!

Re: Mommy's of DC Under 1 -- and BTDT Moms- Please COme In!
I took my kids to a mommy and me class that was held at a local inn next door to a post partum/lactating women's store. They had a different speaker and a gourmet lunch offered for $10. It was wonderful. It is located in Chatham, NJ.
I also took my kids to Music Together. I loved this class. DS went from 9 months - 2 1/2 years old and DD went from 0 months - 2 1/2.
My kids have had swimming lesions since they were about 15 months old.
I tried Gymboree but felt that it was for older kids. I would start with Gymboree/My Gym/Little Gym/Gymnastics at age 2. I personally feel that is an age where they really can get something out of it.
