need advice QUICKLY - Travel with Pets
We're driving down to NC TODAY
My mom thinks she might want to bring one or both of her yorkies (I think one is actually a silky, so a bit larger, she still thinks it's a yorkie).
Neither has ever been in the car for more than an hour or so, so 1) what can we do on the car trip?
and 2) What do we go at the hotel? it is a pet-friendly hotel (which I usually avoid because of my allergies, but I didn't pick it). What should we bring for the dogs? Are we allowed to leave them in the hotel room? What if someone comes in and lets them out? I guess they should be crated? (I don't think my mom will want to leave them much, if at all).
Any other advice?
I'm so stressing over this. 3 people, 1-2 dogs and luggage in a Jetta on a 12 hour drive.

We drove down to Florida with our dog. He slept pretty much the entire time. We made sure to stop at least every 3 hours so he could walk around, get water, and go to the bathroom.
We also stayed at a pet friendly hotel (we stopped overnight). The policy was that the dog should not be left alone in the room so he was always with one of us.

Big thing is that most hotels do not 'allow' a pet to be left alone in the room - even if it is crated. I'd check with your hotel first! Other than that.. in the car, just make them confortable, if they have a bed or blanket they like.. they'll be excited at first, but will calm down. You'll have to make stops to let them do their thing, but I think the drive should be OK. They won't really know the difference between 1 hour and 4 once they are calm and will probably fall asleep. Good Luck!

Re: need advice QUICKLY - Travel with Pets
I travel to dog shows with my boy all the time in hotels. Most hotels do not allow dogs to be left alone in the room but I personally would never do that anyway. I don't think he would understand why I was leaving him a strange place. Beware that is is summer and to NEVER leave the dog alone in the car. If you are stopping for human bathroom breaks, take turns going in and have someone stay with the dogs. Make sure to bring plenty of food for them, water, their beds from home if they have them, some treats, and a few toys. Have fun!
