Pumping Moms
I have been pumping for almost 6 months now, never had any issues. I use the medela freestyle and have replaced the parts every 2 months. I noticed yesterday that my right boob is emptying but my left is making HALF of what my right does. Usually there is about a .5 oz difference but this is crazy. I hand expressed after and tons came out. I don't think its the pump or parts because I have been switching them to make sure. Any idea? I don't have any pain in the breast and it almost feels empty even though its impossible. I haven't put DS to my boob for about a month so I tried using him to drain it and he slapped it

Re: Pumping Moms
Check the membrane for tears. Someone on here suggested that to me when I was suddenly pumping less and that was exactly the problem. Now every time I have an issue, i just put new membranes in and that usually fixes it.

Re: Pumping Moms
I agree about the membranes. Even if they are new, maybe they are a bad batch?
On a side note, I laughed when I read that last line.

Re: Pumping Moms
I don't understand though because I have 2 seperate sets and I rotated all of them and its still happening?! I guess I will replace everything and see what happens. I have taken a HUGE hit with DS developing a protein allergy and getting rid of my stash, AF showing back up and now this, I'm falling behind!
It was funny when he slapped it, except milk was coming out therefore it sprayed him and then he screamed because it was in his face! Once he realized what it was,you could tell he was very upset he wasted it

Pumping Moms
My boobs always give different Amounts. I don't think 1/2 oz is a big different at all...my right always gives me more than my left and depending on time of day it can be a 1-3 oz diffence!

Same for me. But if that's not normally the case for you, it may be the membranes like the PP's suggested.

I think she was saying that there is a 1/2 oz difference most of the time, but this time the difference was much greater.

Re: Pumping Moms
At about 7 months the same thing happened to me, even with a new pump and no AF. Its really annoying I've been dealing with it for the last month.

Re: Pumping Moms
Have you tried just pumping on the one side that you don't get a lot out of lately? See if there's any difference if you use the flange that you usually use on the opposite side.
