First Trimester Ultra Screen
Can you tell me what this is like? Mine is scheduled for next week.
I was watching Guilana and Bill and they had a VERY detailed U/S and saw the heart chambers, skeleton, etc. They also told them the sex of the baby, but I thought 12 weeks was too early?
What can I expect and how long does the process take?
Edited to add one more question: Is it an internal or external sonogram?

That sounds like the Level 2 u/s at 20 weeks.
The 12 w scan is pretty short. They take a few measurements and thats it. There is also a blood draw or finger prick.
At this point though, the baby actually looks like a baby. You should be able to see he/she moving around. Its definitely a very cool experience! Good luck!!!

ITA -- what you're describing sounds like the anatomy scan, which is usually between 18 and 20 weeks.
The 12 w u/s is mostly to look at the head, neck, and spine, and specifically at the fluid levels around the spine. That, along with blood test results, give you odds of a possible abnormality and can let you choose if you want to do further testing because of a potentially-high probability of one.
At our 12 w u/s this pregnancy, they were able to see a penis and told us with confidence we are having a  (confirmed at 20 w) -- we were VERY surprised to find out so early! With DD, we found out at 19 w; they couldn't even guess for us one way or another at 12 w that pregnancy.
The baby definitely looks like a baby and it's really fun to watch! Mine were both very short -- probably about 5 minutes, but some people say their u/s are much longer. Have fun!!!

Wait, are you saying reality tv isn't real? 
When I was watching the show, it seemed like it would be too early for that much detail.
So I guess I need to stop watching TV! After watching Bethany last year, I asked a bunch of friends if they got italian ice while in labor and they said no way - just regular ice chips. BOOOOOOOO

I got italian ice during labor (nothing fancy -- like the stuff you used to get on your lunch tray in elementary school). I almost threw it up though lol.
Mine was an external sono both pregnancies. I've heard some people have both, but I think it's usually just external.

At 12 weeks there is a line between all babies legs. If it's going one way it's a boy, the other a girl (I forget which). They told me 70% one was a boy at 12 weeks but then said at 14 weeks that 100/95% both were girls. Confirmed 100% at 16 weeks. The tech said she has seen the line go one way then the other 10 minutes later.
I know they do the NT scan and bloodwork at 12 weeks. They measured some other things too.
