Re: Starting a Registry

Youre not alone. I am conpletely overwhelmed. I got the baby bargains book as many girls recommended on here and i read through the sections for the bigger items, like car seats, high chairs, nursery furniture etc. Then i went looking at bru & bbb and narrowed down big items i liked.
I just went to actually start registering yesterday... im maybe 1/4 of the way done; im going to have to take it one step at a time. My head was spinning. Im 20wks now and would like to be done registering by the end of the month.
I started with browsing, baby bargains and asking a ton of questions on parenting around 12wks.
good luck!

Re: Starting a Registry

I just did my registry and it really wasn't a fun process for me. I agree with you, so may products and very overwhelming. I did A LOT of research. I read the baby bargains book, looked at reviews on BRU and received opinions from friends that have already been through the process. I think (for me) the hardest part is you won't know what the baby likes until s/he is here so it's hard to figure out what is a waste of money. I'm no expert but you're welcome to view my registry if you think it'll help.

I felt the same way you did. I made a appointment at BBB to have somone walk around the store with us to give us some help. We were there for over two hours. For us it helped. Later on I was able to add and take away things online. I'm still doing it. lol

Re: Starting a Registry

If you register at Buy Buy Baby, you make an appointment and they have a personal shopper that takes you around and helps you with everything you need and shows you the differences of everything as far as safety and convenience, etc. My experience there was awesome and really took the stress out of registering for us. We went back 3 times and used the same girl and got everything done.

HTH! and good luck!

I registered shortly after my 20 week appointment (when I found out the gender). It helps to go someone that has BTDT otherwise it could get overwhelming, I went with my sister who has two young DD's so she knew exactly everything to get, but the stores also will have registry checklists to help.. we registered at BBB.

Buy the Baby Bargains book. It's a Godsend. Use that as your guide.

If you feel overwhelmed start your registry online first. With Target a lot of the items are online only but you can select the ones sold in store so you will know which items people are able to buy in person. Same with Babies R Us. Personally I love BBB. I find the staff to be more knowledgeable and helpful than Babies R Us but that's JMO. I started my registry at about 12 weeks and then completed it at 20 weeks once i found out the sex. I checked on it frequently though because a lot of times items get discontinued. Good Luck and have fun.

Re: Starting a Registry

I totally understand. I felt sick the first time I went to BRU! My suggestion would be pick out a few things using Baby Bargains or other online research and then go to the store and just add those few things. After that you can slowly add things online or go back to the store a few times if that's not too much of a pain. And remember you can always make changes!

Re: Starting a Registry

It is def overwhelming!!!

The baby bargains book helped me SO much!! & I brought my SIL with me, she has a DS, so having her there to tell me what was a waste and what I should register for was priceless!!

Also, we went to the store twice to do ours and then constantly edited it online.

Is there a BTDT Mommy that you're close with? Friend, cousin, sister, whoever? That's what I did. I dragged my cousin and my mom to register and it made it 1000x easier.

Re: Starting a Registry

When I registered for DD #1 we didn't have too many friends who had kids yet. We got the baby bargains book, I asked a MILLION questions and opinions on here and then DH and I started registering.

We picked one large item to register for at a time (carseat/stroller, swing, pack n play, etc) and we would add a few other little things at the same time. It allowed me to focus without being completely overwhelmed by information and trying to comapre a million things. It also wasn't completely exhausing!

It took a few trips but ultimately made the process much easier for me!
