Re: Puggles

no such thing as "positives" and "negatives" of a puggle since they arent a real breed.

they should look up both breeds befoedr making a decision. i sure hope they arent planning on buying one form a "breeder" (i use the term very loosely)

Re: Puggles

They are mutts (mix breeds), and therefore the health and temperment (as well as look) of the dog is unpredictable and inconstant. (Irresponsible) breeders have only been *experimenting* with this combination for a short time, so there is no real data about long-term health or temperment problems.

If your friend is set on getting a pug mix or a beagle mix, please refer to petfinder.com and rescue a mixed breed in need.

If your friend is looking for a particular *breed trait* then please refer them to a single breed specific rescue.

Re: Puggles

my brother has one, he did not get one from a breeder, but adopted one that was being neglected by its owner. He is a very loving dog, and good with my 4 year old. He is stubborn at times and loves to dig. traits from each breed. I think he needs some obediance training.

good luck.

Re: Puggles

I dont have one but I have a few friends who do.

The only complaint I hear is about stubborn-ness. THey arent easy to house break and they training takes a little longer than with some breeds.
However they are sweet and friendly.

Re: Puggles

I became interested in them after seeing the pics of those that had them on LIW. I found Bubba (boomer) on Petfinder.com by looking up Pug. There are ALOT of pug/beagle mixes.

Our Bubba's tempermant, etc.:
he likes to hide and bury his rawhides/bones in the couch cushions, closets, piles of clothing from the Rottie and he likes to dig holes in the yard(beagle trait)
he is VERY protective of the house...barks even if there are people out in the street and nowhere near the house.
he is STUBBORN but will listen when he feels like it
He perches on the top of the couch (pug trait)
he cuddles...next to us on the couch, under the blankets in winter (pug trait)
he's lazy and sleeps all day which the vet said is a characteristic of the shorter muzzled dogs beacause of their breathing issues
he snores, sneezes quite violently (which is funny to watch) and has the occasional case of the snarfs (I guess you could equate it to an asthma attack?)
he is VERY good with the baby....she climbs on him, pulls his ears, tries to grab handfuls of fur (which we don't allow her to do--we are trying to show her to make nice to the puppies) and he just sits there with this pathetic look. He lays down on the bed when she is taking her bottle, he lays in her room when we are playing there to watch us. And he likes to lick her toes.

He is a GREAT dog, but as other posters mentioned because it is a MUTT, there is no guarantee as to which breed they will take more after. He's so good we know we'll get the mix again in the future at some point. Size also varies.....mine has the body of a beagle but the coloring and face of a pug with beagle ears. He's also 45 lbs. He looks like a sausage with legs.

Re: Puggles

My brother has a puggle puppy who I'm pet sitting right now. He's only 3 months old, so this may (I hope) just be puppy behavior, but he is, as other people have said, very stubborn (barks at you when he doesn't get his way), and very energetic. He has done excellent with house training so far and even learned sit, down and paw already - so he's quite smart. But, as he is a puppy, he is a HANDFUL. Everything, everything, everything goes in his mouth and he fights to the end before giving it up (well, before you pry it out of his mouth with hopefully all of your fingers in tact). My DH and I are so glad we adopted an older dog as we are so not ready to be full time puppy parents! Chat Icon

Re: Puggles

my puggles are fabulous... and by the way even though they are mixed breeds or mutts.. they still have different behavoirs.

my puggles i have 2. can be very active. when it's play time but then can snuggle up with you all night long... both of dogs are very very intelligent... we potty trained them almost right away!! and basic comman training as well..

they are my babies... and are extremelly affectianate (sp) dogs... i would reccommend to them anyone!!
