Vitamins with Flouride

Hi,
My DD just had her 6 month check-up, and her pediatrician gave her a prescription for vitamins with flouride. I noticed on some of the posts lately that some of you would rather not give vitamins. Can I ask what the reasoning is? FYI, my LO is EBF and just started solids...oatmeal and veggies. Thanks!

I *think* that most of the people who are against Flouride have a problem with the possibility for flourosis, the white spots on teeth if you ingest too much flouride.

From what I have read, Fluoride is a poison that accumulates in the body and damages the immune system among other things when ingested. I had read that more recent studies have found that fluoridated water was not even effective in combating tooth decay.

I am saying this off the top of my head from reading in numerous places about fluoride. I suggest looking into it yourself before making any decision.

Some believe Flouride to be a neurotoxin more poisonous than lead and claim that it is associated with autoimmune diseases, organ damage and other physical ailments. There is tons of information on line about this.

But...the information, like all research, is refutable. Here's a statement from Dr. Sears, who is also pretty reputable.

I did not give my child prescription vitamins with or without fluoride because of the other junk in there.....dyes, preservatives, sugars, chemical ingredients. Instead, I chose a whole food vitamin that is made from natural sources and not in a chemistry lab. But....we are a fluoride free household and will only get it administered topically at our routine dental visits. I don't like the idea of ingesting more than our water supply provides.

My DD's ped doesn't regularly prescribe them (only if parent wants them). She believes it's a neurotoxin. She asked that I watched a documentary called The Fluoride Deception (available on You Tube) and decide for myself. I decided not to go with it. (Even though, yes, it's one of those things DH and I had as kids and we're fine).
We saw a ped dentist (for a mouth injury) when DD was a year. He figured that I wasn't giving them to DD as soon as I said who her doctor was. He said he wouldn't push it right now, but we would revisit the convo when she starts getting her adult teeth. I'm hoping by then that there will be more research—one way or another.

Instead I give her Baby Plex by Animal Parade (sold at Health stores). It's free of artificial dyes/preservatives, etc.
