Johnson and Johsnon just Recalled all infants tylenol...

http://www.fox43.com/news/wpmt-liquid-infants-tylenol-recalled-20120217,0,5145280.story?track=rss

theres something wrong with the new dosing mechanism

Problems with the dosing system from Tylenol have led them to make a voluntary recall of the medicine for infants.

From Tylenol.com: "Fort Washington, PA (February 17, 2012) – McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. (“McNeil”), is voluntarily recalling, at the wholesale and retail levels, seven lots, approximately 574,000 bottles, of Infants' TYLENOL® Oral Suspension, 1 oz. Grape distributed nationwide in the United States (see full product list below). Infants' TYLENOL® is an over-the-counter (OTC) product indicated as a pain reliever/fever reducer.

McNeil is initiating this voluntary recall as a precaution after receiving a small number of complaints from consumers who reported difficulty using the Infants' TYLENOL® SimpleMeasure™ dosing system. SimpleMeasure™ includes a dosing syringe, which a parent or caregiver inserts into a protective cover, or “flow restrictor,” at the top of the bottle to measure the proper dose. In some cases, the flow restrictor was pushed into the bottle when inserting the syringe. Children's TYLENOL® products are intended for children two years of age and older and remain available.

No adverse events associated with this action have been reported to date and the risk of a serious adverse medical event is remote. Consumers can continue to use Infants' TYLENOL® provided the flow restrictor at the top of the bottle remains in place. The company discussed how to use the product's dosing system in a separate message to consumers also issued today.

If the flow restrictor is pushed into the bottle, the parent or caregiver should not use the product. Consumers can request a refund by visiting www.tylenol.com or contacting McNeil at 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time; Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time). Parents and caregivers with any health questions or concerns should contact their healthcare provider and visit www.tylenol.com for additional information.

I didn't know Tylenol was back on the shelves. I am so done with J&J, it's ridiculous. They have been in the news a lot Lately and I used a lot of their stuff but not anymore.

I just stick with generic.
It's the same EXACT stuff. SAME.
And you don't hear about the generics getting recalled every other day.
Not to mention- it's like half the price.

Well they probably are...I mean I doubt Target and Stop and Shop and CVS all have pharmaceutical plants.
But they never seem to have the labeling and recall issues that the name brands have.

i agree it just surprises me that non genric brand never really gets recalled yet brand names do and it could be the same company making them

Re: Johnson and Johsnon just Recalled all infants tylenol...

So it’s a recall if the flow restrictor thingy is pushed into the bottle. Otherwise you’re fine. That’s it. No drug interaction, no bug parts floating in the mix, no death of a child, sickness etc.

Just “hey if its broken, don’t use it”

Meh.

ETA: still glad I use generic tho LOL

Exactly. I even buy the generic for myself. Works the same and it doesn't get recalled 6x a year.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I haven't even seen it back on the shelves ~ we have been doing the generic or Target brand.

Right, but if the dosing mechanism is broken, parents may look to use a different item for dosing and could easily overdose their baby by mistake. You are only supposed to use the item that came with tylenol (or motrin) to dispense the medicine for a reason.

So with the dosing mechanism not working properly, this can cause problems.

And so yeah, this is why I have only bought generic for all medicines for 2+ years since the last big tylenol recall.

Re: Johnson and Johsnon just Recalled all infants tylenol...

i usually use the generic but since I saw it back on the shelf I bought it. I bought 5 bottles one for each location my DS will be at thru out the week.....he is now prone to febrile seizures so I need IB PROF and Tylenol handy at all times.

The plastic thing is so easy to use! If it breaks then toss it. As long as there is nothing wrong with the meds. I know exactly what my DS needs as per the dr. It is crazy how people just OD their kids....
