Are bibs a must have?

It seems like not many folks really use too many bibs anymore. Should I bother buying a lot? Chat Icon

I think it really depends on the baby. I definitely had way to many for DD. I found I used them more with teething and the drooling and again when she began feeding herself. She never really spit up, I feel like maybe that would make a difference too.

I used them a LOT with both boys, especially when they started teething (and drooling). If I didn't have bibs on them, their shirts were soaked with drool - gross to me.

Re: Are bibs a must have?

I think bibs are a must. Babies drool a lot...and....if you don't have a bib on them then you end up with wet clothes which I'd imagine isn't very comfortable.

I would at least have a bunch...honestly we ended up with like 30 which is a bit much, but since you can use a few in a day when they are drooling/teething the most, I think 10 is kinda a must!

I definitely think there was need for bibs for my DS. With all of the drooling and dribbling of milk and then food, it was a necessity. Without one, his shirt would be constantly wet and under his little neck Chat Icon

Re: Are bibs a must have?

Not to mention that when they spit up...well, you don't want that spit up getting on their clothes. It stains if you are formula feeding, and then you'd have to change outfits several times a day. Honestly I think it is 100% a necessity!

For DS they were a definite must have. We went through a number of them a day and some of them get scuzzy pretty quickly.

My favorite ones are the BRU brand ones - they changed them a little bit since DS was born but, the terry cloth ones were great for absorbency. A lot of the other ones the spit up just rolled off.

The darker color ones also stay nicer longer.

Re: Are bibs a must have?

I don't think you need alot.. I had waaayyy too many with ds. They were good when he drooled alot but he was bf and never really spit up either.. If your baby spits up alot then you'll need more I guess. I used more of the bigger ones for when he started feeding himself ESPECIALLY apples. He likes to eat the apples whole and didn't realize how the juice stains beyond ruining clothes. I don't think those tiny newborn size is needed. I love THESE they are burp clothes with a snap that you can turn it into a bib.. By far my favorite..

Re: Are bibs a must have?

YES! As a mom of twins , one is a spitter and the other is not. But at 3 months they started drooling SO much. It's easier to change a bib than a baby every 20minutes. I buy new bibs all the time and still run out.

IMO yes. DD was a "dribbler" when she drank a bottle. It would run out of the sides of her mouth, bibs saved alot of outfit changes. Then around 4-5 months when the teething started, she was in bibs all day everyday from the massive amounts of drool

I didn't start really using them until I started ds on solids at 6m old. We had gotten a ton of the dribble bibs when he was first born since they came with a lot of the outfits we were given & I'd occasionally put one on if he was having an exceptionally drooly day, but it wasn't that often Chat Icon What I had was more than enough though - I didn't have to go out & buy any in the beginning, so you might be fine with what you get with your gifts.

Yes!!
I didn't start using any until he was about 6 weeks old. before that, we were using a burp cloth tucked under DS's chin to catch all the dribbles from feeding, until we realized that's what the bibs are for!
When he started to spit up, the bibs were a necessity to help catch it, and now that he's drooling all the time, they really help mop up all the wetness.
they do help immensely

we have tons of them - i keep about a dozen downstairs that would last a few days, then about 5 in his room upstairs, then the daycare has about 5 and the diaper bag has 2, and his grandparents have 2.
You can never have too many imo since they can go through several a day
