Have to agree with the others above - in certain, specific cirumstances, yes, but generally speaking, no way.

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
No. I would not. But, then again, I am VERY over protective with who I leave my kids alone with - i.e. next to no one So maybe I am not a good example
That said - even in the exceptions listed I would have an issue. WHY was that man/boy prosecuted and charged with statutory rape? Clearly the girls parents or the girl herself had to press the charges right? If it got to that point - my guess is that something was not kosher. Whether he would be a molester or not would be an entirely separate issue - this would just not be the type of person I would leave my child with.

The parents, nor the girl need to press charges. It's a crime, so if the police find out, they can make an arrest.

Yes, but, wouldn't that be the way they would typically find out?

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
A female employee who's worked at Dh's business for years is a registered sex offender. When i go there I don't even think twice about letting her hold/play with dd. she is a divorced mother of 2, who made a bad choice and "dated" someone she thought was 18. Turns out he was underage, and met him on a social setting where she figured he was at least 18. He continued the lie for a bit until his parents found out and pressed charges. It's awful. She wears an ankle bracelet and goes to meetings with filthy old child molesters 2x/month.

My first thought was that I'd be bat sh1t crazy to consider it.
On further thought, I'd need to know the circumstances before allowing it. By needing to know the circumstances, that means I'd be looking up the actual circumstances of the conviction. I wouldn't take someone at their word - even a friend.
I know someone who used to leave their child with her ILs. Her ILs who molested their own children (her DH & his siblings).
Really????

Not necessarily. My mom's friend's son was dating a 16 year old for quite some time (he was 17). The police had it in for him, as he was typically a trouble maker, and knew he was dating someone that was not of age for legal consent . He was arrested, and is currently incarcerated for 12 years for statutory rape.

I know of someone who is registered bc he was like 18 with a 16 yr old. Se had consented but I believe the dad pushed for the charge. Situations like that, yes- you could still be around my child. But child porn, rape etc. Of course not!

It almost happened with me and my daughters father. When my father (who I rarely saw) found out I was pregnant (at 15) he wanted to press charges against my than 17 yrs old boyfriend. For no other reason than he was mad at both of us. Thankfully he didn't follow through. Because he didn't deserve that.

For any of the reasons listed above. No Way! If it was a 21 yr old guy who had sex with his 16 yr old girlfriend. I don't think I would have a problem with it.
I think this would be the only reason I would be ok with. DH was 20 and I was 15 when we started dating so for 3 years he could have gotten in trouble for being with me. And he is a great person. That's why I say this. Anything else, no way.
No never would consider it.
Sorry I have 2 sons and if they were 20 and bought home a 15 year old I would be so beyond livid unacceptable to me.
While you may be livid with your sons (as my parents were when they found out) would you still feel that your son deserved to be sign up to be a registered sex offender? If it was a relationship and nothing your son was doing was forceful? As mad as you may be at him I don't think he would deserve to be catogorized that way.

Yup. Her DH had memories of being abused by the mom & the sisters came to them later about the dad. Both parents were wicked alcoholics who started sexually abusing their children (common theme among molestors - making the child the pseudo-spouse) & later divorced. When I asked her how she could have her ILs watch them, she said "well when you put it like that it's an awful idea. I think it was more the situation they were in...I only really do it when it's an emergency & I can't find someone else".. REALLY??!
The ILs also go to the kids' birthday parties. Parties with other children. I really hope she's right.

no way in hell! i don't care what it was for, absolutely not! There is nothing that I would be doing without my kids that would require me to have no other choice but to leave them with this person.

Edited to fix "19" yr old guy.
This is they only reason i would let my children even be around someone on the list. I know someone who had just turned 18 and was with hs girlfriend of 2 years for the 1st time on prom night...she was 16

technically a 20 year old would be a sex offender. The parents of the 15 year old could press charges!

I don't care. 15 and 20 is too much of an age difference. MOST 15 year olds are NOT mature enough to make decisions about sex, period. I'd completely agree with a 20 year old being charged with and registered as a sex offender.
Of course your experience is your experience, and I'm glad it's all worked out, but I do believe it's the exception and not the rule.

I would be LIVID if someone I knew/trusted invited any child I know to party with known sex offenders.
That "mother" is just as much a monster as her ILs!!

Re: if you knew someone was a registered sex offender....
When a sex offender is released usually the terms of their parole/probation is they are not allowed around children without a safeguard present (a person who had gone through a specific program to supervise a sex offender amongst children) also if you leave ur child with a known sex offender you could end up facing charges

For me, it's not so much the age but the maturity level & the stage of development. Like a 20 & a 25 year old, perfectly fine. 15 & a 20 year old is iffy (as it was when I was 16 & dated a 24 year old guy fresh out of the Marines briefly).
Would you feel a 14 year old & a 19 year old was ok?

Agreed...I also have an acquaintance that had to register for being arrested for public urination at age 21. Considered indecent exposure in some states. He is not a sex offender IMO...just a drunk man peeing in an alley at 2am.
I have heard of this too, that if you are caught publically urinating you can be labelled as a sex offender. This and the situation where the 19 year old would be charged for having sex with his 16 yo girlfriend I wouldn't have a problem with.
