TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
Warning this is gross and graphic and about stool.
~~~~~~
This is so embarrassing but I really need to ask this.
OK- Is this normal?
I am so constipated all of the time. But when I do go, the stool is a dark black color all of the time. And it is hard as a rock. They are always VERY large, hard to push out and solidly packed. It's the most disgusting thing i've ever seen and feels unhealthy. It is causing me to bleed.
This just started getting really bad recently, but when this was less of an issue and I just called it "constipation" with the doctor and "some differences in color and texture", she said so nonchalantly oh that's normal.
I know constipation is normal and slight changes are normal. But, I probably only go once a week if that. Is it REALLY normal to be so dark and so tightly packed and large?
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
I have heard that can happen with too much iron and pg women have that problem a lot.
Did your dr say you can take stool softener? Are you drinking enough water? I never took a softener but I notice its way worse if I don't have enough water.
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
lol, I was just saying to DH this morning that I haven't had a good poop since getting pregnant. I don't have a problem with constipation though, just not very satisfying poops
Have you asked your doctor about prescription prenatal vitamins with stool softener? That's what I use and I try to drink a lot of water. Maybe try some prune juice or hot water with lemon and honey? The second choice always helps me.
def try to see if the prenatals with stool softener will help you My office gave me a bunch of samples first.
Thank you. I will def. mention this at my appointment on Friday. I think this might help.
I try to eat a lot of fiber and I try to drink a lot. Right now I'm sick so its hard because I need 2X as much liquids as normal and its hard to drink so much. I have been having water with lemon and honey.
I'm glad this is sort of ok and normal. I was really worried but I will have to look into maybe a different prenatal. Mine has 156% Iron now...
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
This is because of all the iron that is concentrated in the prenatal vitamin. Try to eat a lot of natural fiber and drink prune juice. I've gone 5 days without any bowel movement and I though I was going to die. Seriously. Prune juice helps.
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
completely normal......you will not have a normal poop until after delivery.
your digestive system slows down during pregnancy so the poop is harder and darker.
drink lots of water and dr let me take a softener
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
It's the vitamins and everything else. You should ask for prenatal vitamins with stool softener in it , or whatever it has in it. My stomach has killing me past 2 days , I am so constipated and when I go I feel like I need to go more, but I can't . Plus I think I have scar tissue from my CS and it hurts like ... when I have to go and I can't . I took stool softener few times but I can't keep taking it every day. I got prune juice this morning and it helped so much, but even though I don't have to go any more my stomach keeps cramping and I feel so much pressure on my bladder/uterus after drinking prune juice. I am only little over 6 weeks so I don't know whats going to happen when I'm farther along
Ask your doctor if you can take a stool softener. Mine actually gave me a prenatal with a softener inside.
I had issues with this as well... my doc told me it was okay to take colace, it is a stool softener.
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
i am pregnant with twins but i had the same issue ...and not to scare you but I now have hemrroids...really painful ones...and large.
i suggest you up your water and fiber intake asap. Fiber One Honey clusters - 1 cup- gives you 51% of you daily fiber. I try to have that and then a fiber bar so my daily fiber is on par. I also upped my fruit and veggies. I eat lots of blueberries- those are also very high in fiber.
my ob also said that a stool softener - i think colace- is safe during pregnancy.
its def not normal to go 1x a week. even with my issues i go every other day- which i still think is bad.
i hoep you feel better!! Just remember- water and fiber!
Thank you for this!! I was so horrified and disturbed by how long and hard it was and this made me laugh about it sooo much. I am glad I am not alone with these things. Sometimes being pregnant feels so isolating (since no one else close to me is pregnant and DH def. doesn't have a clue)... so glad for this forum and your response.
Yeah, I think I have these and it's bleeding now. Hasn't quite stopped since the morning. Not badly, but every time I wipe at least you know? Do you know what I can do about this? What makes the bleeding stop or less? What creams I can use that are pregnancy safe?
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
If I didn't take a colace everyday with my prenatal vitamin, I don't think I'd poop more than once a month while pregnant!
Taking colace makes it feel much more normal. It won't go back to normal until after you give birth because pregnancy slows down your digestive tract!
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
I don't always take the full dosage of my prenatals, or I take half in the am and have in the pm. It helps tremendously!! I haven't had any bm issues at all. Just make sure you eat properly too.
Re: TMI! warning TMI regarding Stool
Idk about the color and compactness of it but I know I have had a problem with constipation since gettin pregnant. I told the dr at my 12 week appointment and they gave me samples of prenatals with stool softners. I tried the 2 kinds. 1 worked and the other gave me gas and made me constipated and made my stomach hurt. I went back to the first sample they gave me. I still do not go to the bathroom regularly and haven't had a "good poop" since being pregnant buy it's better than before. I'm also trying to increase my fiber and I drink lots of water.
Good luck!
