Fetal echo because of IVF?

I conceived DS through IVF and now DC #2 as well. This time around they are recommending I go for a fetal echosonogram because with IVF there is an increased chance of heart defects. Apparently this is a new finding and the increased chances are minimal. Did anyone else's Dr. recommend this? I am thinking of not doing it. I hate unneccessary testing! I think I have done enough "extras" dealing with infertility. My Level 2 was totally normal. What do you ladies think?

I haven't heard anything about that, and I did IVF as well. I had my level 2 today, but the sono tech didn't give me feedback. As long as my doctor says the results were fine, I would see no reason to go for it.

Oppenheim, Marchbein, Rush & Prince. The protocol is only a few months old.

Nope.

I used Rma. My ob never wanted a fetal cardiac us. But we did do the 20 week.

Re: Fetal echo because of IVF?

I had a fetal echo with my DS due to a history of family heart problems and it is just a sonogram, no blood or invasive testing. I opted to have it because I felt that in the event of a heart problem I would've had a pediatric cardiologist on hand after delivery and would've been able to research them prior to giving birth. Thankfully, I never even needed to worry about it because everything was fine. Best of luck in whatever you decide!

I am torn because it is not invasive but to be totally honest - taking time from work is a big issue for me right now. I would have to leave early that day. I have been leaving early for regular OB appointments and also things for DS. I hate for it to be a matter of an inconvenience but it kinda is...

Would you be able to do it the same day as a future appointment? It took maybe a half hour when I went. I don't think that it would be a big deal if you skipped it, but I haven't read the research that you referred to. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Crashing..
When I was pregnant with DS I had to get the fetal echo. I also conceived with IVF. I was also high risk due to diabetes and my age.
The test really was not a big deal. They did an echo on me and the baby. I think I was gone from work for about 2 hours total between travel time and test time.
