Will I make it????

I am due on January 23. I went to the dr today and I am 1 cm dilated. I asked her if that means I will be early and she said it's too early to tell. What do you think? How fast or slow can I move to 10 cm? Will I make my due date or should I prepare to be early?

i was 1cm for a couple of weeks before my due date. a week After my due date i was induced and went from 1cm to 10cm in a few hours. everyone is different but you can stay dialated for a little while before the fun begins

you just never can tell, but on the bright side, you only have 9 more cm's to go.

Thanks ladies! I'm excited but so scared at the same time. I guess it's the fear of the unknown. I have no idea when it's going to happen or what to expect. It feels soooo real now.

You can never tell. I was due 1/19 and had zero progress and my water broke. I was in complete shock and do not have things set at home

I would have the hospital bag ready and the bassinett and changing area set. You can function with those being done

I was 1cm from 36wks on - never effaced... and I was 12 days late (by choice). Dilation doesn't play a role in when you're going to go.

i delivered at 33w with an emergency c-section due to pre-e and HELLP, but i was 2cm dialated at 33w. you can walk around dialated for weeks, i dont think it has a baring on whether you are early or late.

I was 1 cm for a week before my water broke. However I never dilated past 3cm and had a csec.

my SIL says she was dilated 4 cm for a month before having her first! but you could end up dilating more quickly and go much sooner than your due date. it seems like you just can't ever tell. good luck!!

I was 1cm dialated at 35 weeks. I gave birth at 38 weeks- full term.

with my 1st pregnancy I was 1cm dilated & 80% effaced for about 3 weeks and ended up having to be induced at 40w 6d. I think I was 2 or 3cm when I went in to be induced.
Everyone is different...there is no way of knowing. Others have no progress at all and then their water breaks out of nowhere...
I'd be as ready as you can be just in case!

Thanks everyone! I feel ok right now--just a little crampy. We are definitely ready for the baby to come. I have my bag packed and everything set up for her to come home. I hope she stays in a while longer though.

I was 1cm for a few weeks and then almost 3cm for about 2 weeks. I went into labor a day before my due date. I started having contractions around 630am. I went to hospital at around 12-1pm and was 5cm dilated. I didn't reach 10cm until about 830. I pushed for 2 hours and delivered DS at 1027pm.
Everyone is different though!
