As a BTDT mom, I did borrow a couple of baby items from a good friend (swing and bouncer) which were in great condition and also accepted clothes that my nephew had outgrown. I've also been giving DS' outgrown clothes to my new nephew. If anything was in gross or super used or run down condition I wouldn't have accepted it, but honestly babies grow out of baby gear really quickly! We had a shower and we still needed to buy stuff on our own so that helped.
We are expecting #2 and my uncle offered to lend or give us a couple of baby items if baby is a girl since they have all pink stuff for their newborn and my first is a boy. If I have a second son, they'll pass it on to another person.
Especially baby gear like a snap n go, mobile etc, babies don't actually drool or accidentally pee or poop on them. Why skeeve something like that if it's in good condition? My mom had said everything should be new for the first baby, but I was cool with borrowing some things.

i guess im in the minority. i have zero problems taking hand me downs with my first baby, as long as things are in good and safe condition. we've taken 2 swings, a jumparoo, bumbo, furniture set, and tons of clothes- all very gently used and in like-new condition.

I should preface with the fact that our friends and family are only offering things that are in fantastic condition - a lot of it doesn't look/seem used at all....
That being said, things that are only used for a few months or it's nice to have multiples of, I'm happy to take (thanks to hand me downs we have a bouncy seat or swing on every floor (and we have a split), only one is new but that's been a nice to have...
Things that get used a lot and can get yucky (car seat, high chair), I'm getting new. My mom is horrified that we're taking hand me downs (esp since we can def afford everything new), but I don't have a problem with it. To each their own!

Same here. There are certain things I probably wouldn't take, like a crib or bottles. But my BFF has two kids and she's not planning on having any more so she's offered us a bunch of things like a jumparoo, some clothes, etc. It's very generous of her and we're more than happy to accept because we both have small families and it would be too expensive for us to buy so much new stuff by ourselves.

we took some stuff from frends, a swing, pack n play to leave at my MIL's house. Everything else we got new.
I am in the same boat as you, it took us a long time to get PG so I want all new stuff for my LO at home.
