Cut your own tree farm
Looking for a recommendation for a place to cut our own Christmas tree in Suffolk County. We went to Lewin's last year and weren't too happy with the selection so we're looking to go somewhere else this year.
Thanks!

Re: Cut your own tree farm
Someone just recommended Lewins to me. He said its $30 any tree. Guess we'll keep looking. The last 2 years we went to Tilden farms in greenlawn. The first year we got a great tree but it was expensive. Last year they had nothing we liked.

We've been going to Baiting Hollow Nursery (which i didn't realize was part of Lewin until last year) for YEARS. We love it. HUGE trees. ANY tree for $30. How can you complain about selection? It's ENORMOUS

Re: Cut your own tree farm
Went to lewin's last yr and seriously if you could find a tree there, then I dunno. We went 2 weeks before Xmas and yea, we looked long and hard but found a great tree. And that's all part of the experience! We're going to go earlier this yr bc we didnt realize just how long a fresh cut tree would last

Re: Cut your own tree farm
Yup, we definitely went to Lewin's. They certainly did have a ton of trees. But many had bad patches or holes. They also seemed to have a lot of HUGE trees, like 9ft and up which we can't fit in our house.
Perhaps we were just cranky though, it was so crowded and so much walking to find the section with 6-7ft trees. We have had such good experiences at a tree farm in VT, but we are not going up there this year again, that I guess Lewin's was a bit of a shock.
I take it there aren't any other good options?

We've gone to Sharmrock Tree Farm in Mattituck for the past few year. Lots of trees but a bit on the pricier side.

Do you know about how much Shamrock and Grandpa Tony's charge? And do they also have wreaths? Thanks!

Re: Cut your own tree farm
DH and I have gone to Lewin's for the last 3-4 years. Last year we spent at least 3 hours trying to find an acceptable tree and wound up with one I didn't even really like. I think we're going to try someplace else this year. Yeah, they had a lot of trees but as a previous poster said, they weren't of the greatest quality.

Re: Cut your own tree farm
doesnt sound like Lewins is the place for me then. I am one of those "tree snobs." It has to be perfect or I dont want it. I drive DH nuts every year
