Re: Anyone get their Winter Wishes letter yet?

I got mine yesterday from a little boy (4 years old) from Brooklyn who asked for a Thomas the Tank Magna Doodle. This put me in tears yesterday because I have a 3 year old obsessed with Thomas the Tank. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can not believe that this may be the only gift this poor child gets.

I'm seriously in the wrong business. I should be working with kids.

Finance can go suck it.

All of your kids sound exactly like what I was hoping for and expecting.

I got my two and both of them want Ripstiks (fancy skateboards). Cheapest I can find is like $50, plus wrapping, plus shipping. No other options given. One is 8, one is 10. Both from the same location in Brooklyn.

I'm a little taken aback to be honest. I WANT to give them what they want, but spending $60 per kid is more than I've allotted for kids in my own family!

Just FYI- If you do the black friday shopping thing- these will be on sale for $29 and $27 at Target and WalMart.

That may help a bit. Personally, I would find something else and avoid the whole Black Friday fiasco. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone get their Winter Wishes letter yet?

I got my letter yesterday,It is from a 4 year old asking for clothing. You can tell that an adult wrote the letter. Either way, it's sad. I called to find out what size the little girl is. I am going t get a doll or some kind of toy with it.

Re: Anyone get their Winter Wishes letter yet?

I LOVE this charity/program and have been doing it for the last few years, this year we had to pass b/c we don't have the $$ ourselves, and I feel bad. It used tobe like a $25 gift, and I can do that, but I thought the letter now said something in the area of a $40 amount is "average".... I find that a bit much IMO these days, and I was getting letters the last 2 yrs for game systems and bikes... I felt the agency should be reviewing the letters and helping the kids. This year we are just gonna take the $20 ish we have to donate and buy one or two toys and put in the toys for tots bin or see if anything is going on at the school etc....

this post reminded me that I had to sign up for the Salvation Army - Angels. I usually do that charity and I was able to get a 5yr old boy a jacket for $20 at old navy!

Re: Anyone get their Winter Wishes letter yet?

I got an 11 year old girl. i think she wants two dresses, pants and underwear. Very hard to understand her spelling. apparently she is a size 15, I have no clue what that means, I thought sizes were even, IDK if it is even children or women sizes. You would think someone would proofread and clarify. Very stressful trying to figure out what is going to fit this poor girl. This was my first time doing this, and I wouldn't do it again. I'll stick to the angel tree.

I have 2 Chat Icon

One is a 6yo girl who wants a Barbie, a guitar and a flute (I got a recorder, hoping thats what she meant Chat Icon )

The other is a 4yo boy who wants the Lion King DVDChat Icon , and loves basketball and piano so i am going to pick up a couple of more things for him

I LOVE that the kids write the letters themselves (or with help)..I was expecting a typewritten letter and it being handwritten just makes it so much more special...

My own 6yo is so excited to buy presents for Romeo and Stephany - he asks me every day when we are going shopping for them Chat Icon

I am gonna do the Salvation army Angel tree, since I want to try and help local kids in MA where I live.
Thanks for mentioning this. We don't have much this year but it would be nice to help someone else.
