Depression and anxiety- LONG

I know that I posted something similar about this before...but..

Prior to pregnancy I was not a depressed person. Perhaps a bit high strung, which would cause slight frustration and anxiety dealing with things that are out of my control. But not depressed or overly panicked at all.

However, yesterday I had a full on melt down. It was spawned by the fact that I was cooped up in house all day drifting in and out of sleep due tot he fatigue. Then DH came home and I immediately started noticing the things about him that drive me insane (all of which I cannot control- none of which aside from the fact that he smokes are all that big a deal). Then it became about the house and the fact that it doesnt feel like home yet (we moved in three weeks ago) and there are still so many little things that we have to do and every time I turn around a doorknob is falling out in my hand or I am scrubbing the floor again because it cant seem to stay clean..(I know I sound crazy..which is exactly how I feel)

Anyway- my hormones are out of control, my skin is horrible, I am already gaining weight..I am just having a really hard time. I could not stop crying yesterday and I totally felt like I had no serotonin in my brain.

Is this normal? I am not interested in necessarily getting a prescription for anything because I have a track record of reacting poorly to medication..I know if I call my doc she will just tell me it is my hormones...I guess I am just looking to hear that others have gone through depression or raging hormones during their pregnancy and that it does GET better and DOES level out.. I don't think you sound crazy AT ALL. There are definitely days that my hormones are raging and DH really gets on my nerves. As does the constant mess that he creates (well it's mostly him). Thankfully it usually only lasts a day at a time. If I'm direct with DH about how he can help me or what's bugging me he's usually pretty good about it. Try being specific about how DH can help you or if you just need some space.

I can't imaging going through all this and being in a new house on top of it. That's a lot of stress to handle at once. I wouldn't want to be going through all the changes of a new pregnancy and not feel at home. Sorry that I don't have much advice, I just wanted to say that I totally understand and I think it sounds totally normal. Hopefully things will ease up soon.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Depression and anxiety- LONG

I yelled at my nail lady the other day for no real reason, then came home and argued with my mom about something very silly (apologized to both of them the next day) . I went to pick up DC from school and felt like everyone was out to pi$$ me off. That night I went to check on my DC and started to sob when I saw how angelic my DC looked while sleeping, I couldn't stop.
So no you don't sound crazy at all Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Depression and anxiety- LONG

I could of wrote this, I was on anxiety meds before I got pregnant but weened off them cause they weren't safe during pregnancy!

My emotions are out of control, I'm either yelling or crying, always feeling sad and lonely, which is usually not like me when I'm not pregnancy so I feel these crazy hormones have a lot to do with it!!

Your not alone, I'm sure lots of pregnant women feel this way!

Another one here who was on meds but weened off. It's difficult, I'll tell you. But do yourself a favor and just mention it to the doctor. I got yelled at for keeping it from him (not like harshly but I was told to stop holding it in lol).

If necessary, they can recommend a counselor just to get that edge off.

It happens. I snapped at my husband once for my coffee not being in my favorite mug one morning. <--- crazy? lol.

Completely normal! You're hormones are RAGING right now and you are probably just feeling overwhelmed. Think about it - you dealing with stress, anxiety, anticipation, and hormones from a pregnancy PLUS just moving into a new house. Just one of these scenarios on its own can drive a person nutty! It will pass though! I promise! Chat Icon

I have a meltdown like once a week, like hysterical sobbing like its the end of the world- then I get even more upset bc i think all the crying and hsyterics harmed my baby. It usually stems from very small things or nothing at all and escalates huge.. Pregnancy and hormes make us emotional, I hope that it gets better for you!
