Moms pregnant with #2...

Will you, or did you, make a registry for this new pregnancy?

I was an Oct '05 Mom.

Needless to say, there will be a lot that we will need for this new baby. Our infant carseat is expired. I want a more sophisticated baby monitor. My needs in a stroller have changed, etc.

Would it be tacky for me to make a registry for a child being born 6 years after my last child was born?

I do not expect a shower or even for people to buy us gifts. But I would like to have a registry to keep track of what we would like to buy for the baby, and I know that you get an extra discount on anything that hasn't been purchased for you. So if we do purchase any large items, that discount would come in handy.

I ran it by my sister today since we spent the day together, and she kinda sounded "eh" about it. She didn't think it was necessary or the best idea.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

I wouldn't say it's tacky IMO. My SIL was pregnant with #2 with a girl, her first was a boy, and she created one with a very small amount of stuff. For me, it was easier to get what she needed.

Also, I believe BRU is doing trade-ins for new stuff.

ETA: She didn't announce that she had, I just found it when I was looking at mine. It had some pink swaddles and sheets, a newer monitor and a car seat for her oldest since the current one she has can still be used for the newborn.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

We made a registry, honestly for the sole purpose of the completion discount! Almost all 2nd time moms I know have done it. We don't need all that much for this baby, since our son will only be 22 months when Chat Icon is born. So we will be reusing most of his stuff for the baby. We needed a few little things, plus a double stroller and a new monitor. So we set up a registry, but didn't even tell anyone about it, because, like you, we aren't expecting anyone to buy us these things. I think it's incredibly common and there is no problem at all with it! Chat Icon

we'll be doing it, my first was born 4 years ago, I saved most of the stuff so we don't really need much.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

I saved everything too, but...6 years down the road, most of the stuff they don't recommend you using. The car seat is already expired. The crib was a hand-me-down as it is and is 10 years old now, and so I don't know if it would be wise to use it. I think we can use the travel swing, bouncer, gymni, and things like that, but there are certain things that we will definately need to replace.

I guess my sister's reaction is what is really getting me. I don't want my family to think that I am being greedy by making a registry. We will not find out the sex with this baby, as we didn't find out with DD, so it isn't even like we could register for boy stuff if we were having a boy.

We certainly have plenty of time to make the decision. I am only 13 weeks. But it has been on my mind and I was a little surprised at my sister's reaction to the question today.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

There will be exactly 3 years apart between my kids, so I don't plan on making a registry. I have things I need to buy, but not really any big items other then a double stroller.

We threw my sister a very small baby shower for her third baby. There is 7 years difference between her first and third child, so she needed alot since her stuff was pretty warn out from going through two kids. Plus, she was having a boy and had two girls already.

I did with 2 because he was a boy and DC 1 was a girl. But I only told immediate family.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

My SIL and mother threw me a sprinkle, that was more like a shower anyway. I had a shower when I lost my son, still had a lot of stuff (and still in boxes), but I had lost him 4 years before I had DS, so a lot of the stuff was old and yucky anyway.

I def think you should register. I'm sure someone will throw you a sprinkle!

I'm not only bc my boys will only be 23mo when the baby is born. If there was a big gap, I would definitely do it!

I made a registry, but didn't tell anyone. I liked being able to keep track of everything in one place. It's worth it for the coupon.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

I didnt make a registry this time even though im having a boy this time. With my dd we got all gender neutral stuff. In your case not tacky at all to register that is a large age gap and you will need new stuff for the babyChat Icon

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

My DD is only 15 months old so I didnt feel comfortable making another registry publicly. However, I did create a private one so I could keep track of what I needed to buy and so I could get a completion coupon.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

I did create a registry...I am having another DD, but they will be 4 years apart.

There are things that we've lost from moving twice, things that have been ruined from mold/etc in storage, and things that I wanted different/upgrades of.

I acutally did a BRU registry. I told my mother that IF anyone asked what I needed / wanted, she could refer them...but I did that mainly for the completion coupon!!

I also did an Amazon registry, since I do have a lot of family out of state, and they use Amazon for everything. They'd reccomended it, since they'd rather send something I can use.

We bought a new crib and the bedding, and we have a lot of clothes, etc. to reuse. But we have to replace the bottles (they weren't BPA free with DD), the pacifiers, etc...It's mostly smaller things, since I do have some big stuff to reuse and we've been given a lot by friends/family who've had babies in the last year or two and aren't using things anymore...

Re: Moms pregnant with #2...

I think it is tacky but my kids are going to be 19/20 months apart. I did make one at Pottery Barn to get the 10% off discount but nobody knew about it.

Do you think it is tacky JUST to have it or tacky to have it and announce it?

My kids are going to have a similar age gap as yours but there was still about 15 items I would like to buy.

I made a registry but haven't told anyone but my mom, mil, and gma when they asked me what I needed.

I didn't do another registery since my dc will be 27 months apart. I probably wouldn't do one even if it was a greater age difference anyway. We have gender nuetral items from our ds since we were team Chat Icon both then and now.

I do think that in your case it would be good to make one since you have a large age difference between dc. Chat Icon

I created one, but only a few things on it and more for the 10% off completion coupon than anything. Chat Icon

If you're creating it for you, then that's fine.

My SIL created two registries and they're quite large. My niece is 5. I think that's absurd to do IMHO, especially since she saved some stuff but she just wants new things.
