hugs! Hang in there...unfortunatly they will probably enforce the formula issue b/c of the low glucose levels. Just keep pumping and when they get normalized you can go back to bF...but keep pumping to give BM along with formula if need be.

hugs!!!

great info from everybody!!

I had wonderful LC's by my side...OB was pushing formula since both of my were jaundice and #1 lost a pound in the hospital...but the LCs were my voice and made me strong enough to refuse formula.

hang in there, i can't imagine how hard this is. hopefully you can all go home together

Hello,
Sorry to hear about your baby, but I know he will be fine!

I don't have direct experience with this, but my friend did, and her daughter did fine after a few days.

With regards to nurses pushing formula, I think there is a difference between giving some formula in the nursery because of a low blood sugar, which I think they treat like a medication- the baby doesn't have an IV, and could have a seizure, and then pushing it later on. I have no problem with the immediate treatment with formula, but I think it is lousy if they continue pushing formula if there is no medical reason for it.

Hang in there! Your baby will get his sugar levels up!

I don't have any experience with low glucose levels, but both my sons had short stays in the NICU (2 days for DS #1, 4 days for DS #2).

I know it's hard, but it's the best place for your child to be right now. Know that he is getting great care! Before you know it, you'll all be home.
