Alimentum question

Ds was originally on the rtf for reflux/sensitivity but we switched to powder 2 wks ago bc it is covered by,insurance. I am not sure that ds is doing as well as the rtf...anyone else see.the same? He was fine up until 2 days ago so I am not sure since its been 2 wks since.the switch..figured I wouls have seen problems sooner. Ds also got his first shots weds so this could be the cause....hate the guessing game!

Re: Alimentum question

my son couldn't do the powder. We always had to use RTF. why won't your insurance cover the rtf alimentum?

Re: Alimentum question

I have no idea its rediculous....i guess because its more $. I have to go thru the appeals process and have my doc give me a note supporting it. I will go this route but it can take up to 30 days for an answer! And it doesnt help that my ped is currently on vaca!!

Re: Alimentum question

DD does fine on both I see no diff between the 2. I would probably lean more towards shots?? I think you would have seen a difference sooner too.

Is he/she on reflux meds? if so the dose may need to be adjusted this just happened to us allthe sudden I was likeChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon then at her appt she weighed more so the dose went up and she is 100% again.

Yes he is on reflux meds and.we recently adjusted bc of weight...this fussiness is different. The cry is different and it appears to be more gas upset stomach bc he has poopy diapers morr frequently and they are loose...the gas leading up the the bowel movement is horrendous also

My son had the same problem . He has milk protein allergy diagnosed from traces of blood in the stool. He was still allergic to the powder but not the ready feed. The powder has 17% casein hydrolisate rtf has 2% read the ingredients . That could be the difference.

Re: Alimentum question

my dr gave me the script for rtf alimentum when ds was diagnosed with a mik lprotein allergy.after much fighting with the insurance company they covered only rtf bc thats how the dr wrote it. anyway i bought a can of powder bc of convience when we go out etc.. didnt work for ds at all. i wasnt sure if it was the powder or him just being fussy only when we went out so i tried the powder for a full day and he was fussy cranky and crying. switched it back to rtf and i got my happy baby back.

Re: Alimentum question

My ins company would not cover either.

I was able to get samples and eventually, he was able to handle soy.

Now not allergic at all to milk products so there is hope!!

Re: Alimentum question

DD has the same issue. Our ped looked it up and the only different ingredient in the powder is a cornstarch that helps keep the powder loose...she said DD may also have an allergy or sensitivity to that. So, RTF it is for us..and no luck with ins as of yet!
