places to go/things to do with a 1 year old
hey all
just a quick question- we have a 1 year old and i hate staying home with him, especially since i only have off in the summer
where can we go? what can i do with him? are there any freebie zoos or petting farms, or fun places i can take him to?
we signed up for a gymboree class once a week, and i plan on taking him to the library every so often, but im hoping for more than that
any suggestions?
thanks!!

DS loves the junior jet club at the cradle of aviation. It's 2.50 per person and it's so nice. A huge play area just for under 5 year olds. They do story time and play games regularly.

I take my one year old to story time at barnes and noble ( i think borders has story time as well) , we joined the town pool has a kiddie pool and he LOVES it. we aslo have TOBAY pass, so we go to the beach and sprinkler park.
Toys r us and buy buy baby is always fun for my DS I let him toddle around in there and play with the toys.
your local library should have programs for your DC some even have areas for kids with puzzles etc
my DS really loves target I go to the dollar section and always get him some little thing to play with

At age 1, I'd still go to places I want to go to. We live in the city and I walk my infant everywhere.
Some libraries have free passes to museums and other attractions.
My parents live in Huntington. The library has free passes to the LI Children's Museum, Old Westbury Gardens, Museum of Natural History. There are others but I haven't used them.

Holtsville Ecology Center is free
Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown is also free and good for that age.
I used to take DS to the Source Mall to ride the carousel.

The Suffolk county farm in yaphank is free, they have events for kids of all ages or you can just roam around. We have a brand new community park/playground in my town and I see lots of little ones there during the day. Many of the east end farm stands have petting zoos and other activities for kids.
