Sleeping on Their Tummy

So our DS hates sleeping on his back. When we put him down he wakes up within 20 min if that long. He naps peacefully on his tummy. We put him on hiis tummy during the day but have not done it when he sleeps in the night. We talked to the ped today about it. He went for his 4 weeks appt. The ped said some babies are just not comfortable on their backs. if he sleeps better on his tummy, just put him on his tummy. I'm a little nervous about doing that in the night. Can you please share what your experience has been if you allow your child to sleep on their tummy. TIA

Re: Sleeping on Their Tummy

My 2nd ds loved to sleep on his tummy - he had good head control so we let him sleep that way. Do whatever you are comfortable with.
My pediatrician said she was happy she had her kids before the back to sleep campaign :)

Re: Sleeping on Their Tummy

My first daughter HATED HATED HATED sleeping on her back. she never could do it without waking up crying every 5 mins. I put her on her belly around 7 weeks for a nap and the rest was history. She started sleeping longer and stayed sleeping peacefully
My second daughter now HATES her stomach lol she's just fine on her back and is STTN.
Every baby is different but if you're comfortable with tummy sleeping, then it's your choice Chat Icon

Re: Sleeping on Their Tummy

Same as yourself. My little one hates her back for any length of time. I talked to the pediatrician about it , he said no issue with putting her on her tummy just watch her from time to time.

This only into 3 wks. She happens to have great head control and upper arm strength. Now we are close to 5 wks and she actually turns herself from one side to the other on her own, so I am less worried.

I will tell you that I use the nap nanny in the bed and so therefore she is upright on an incline a bit,no matter what I still tend to watch her with one eye open and one eye shut.

I found the incline is a little better if your worried about baby stuck in a position down and not breathing.

Goal is for our baby to get out of our bed by 6wks ,depending on her.

GL!

Re: Sleeping on Their Tummy

Thanks everyone! We tryed him tummy down last night and he slept like a champ! He is able to turn his head from one side to the other so we felt comfortable doing it. Thanks for the reassurance.Chat Icon

Re: Sleeping on Their Tummy

my DD has been a belly sleeper since 10 weeks (she's 5 months now). the ped told us to flip her.
she sleeps almost 12 hours every night! it's wonderful!!!!
she wiggles around too much, so we returned the angel care monitor.

DD was a much better napper on her tummy when she was a few weeks old. She had pretty good head control so I never minded doing it. A few weeks later she started to like her back again......who knows! do what you are comfortable with.
