Coxsakie and Pregnancy?
I'm finishing up my last week as a substitute teacher, and the class I was subbing in yesterday had a child who wound up going home early with coxsakie. My OB said not enough research has been done on it, I should be okay, just to stay away from the child (easy enough since he wasn't there the rest of the day) but I was wondering if anyone had experience?

I never got it, but DS did. Got it in daycare. Just make sure you wash your hands plenty and make sure the child's desk is cleaned and lysoled.
I know plenty of parents on the parenting board who's LO had it and they never did. Just take care of yourself.

My DS had it last week. There isn't much you can "do" about it except try to avoid it, which is sometimes impossible.
I didn't get it from DS, so let's hope you steer clear too!

THANK YOU for asking this! My best friend's 22 month year old son is currently fighting it - and my shower is Saturday. Poor little guy is miserable. I'm nervous that maybe I would be able to catch it from her?
I read online that pregnant women should not be near anyone with coxsakie because it can spread to the unborn baby can cause complications.
I'm personally hoping there's enough time between now and Saturday that her son feels better and she doesn't catch anything.
Her doctor also told her that the virus is not as bad as it sounds... it was named after the town where the lab was located in NY that discovered the virus. It sounds like a scary disease, but still... fever and sores down the throat is not something I want to risk right now.
I'm going to ask my doc when I see him Thursday.

*crashing*
It's contagious for 3-6 days. So by Saturday the child shouldn't be contagious anymore. If she caught it, theoretically she would be contagious, but lots of parents don't get it when their kids have it.
It's apparently normally much less serious for adults. Don't know about getting it during pregnancy though.

Re: Coxsakie and Pregnancy?
Well, I haven't been to the doc yet because I am only 6 weeks, but both of my kids had it last week. I was nervous but I did a little research and everything I read said that it should be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it because parents usually don't get it anyway. This is the 3rd time my son has had it and I have never gotten it from him.
