I'm having twins and I stopped at 26 weeks because I almost passed out at work.. a week later they said my cervix was short and I would have had to stop by then anyway.

I've been unemployed and probably will remain unemployed my entire pregnancy due to the economy.
If I was working, they would have given me 'light duty' which to them is no heavy lifting. I still would have been going up and down ladders. That is what they did for other women in my industry at least.

I don't technically get maternity leave, I am just welcome to take as many unpaid weeks as I'd like and then come back when I am ready, but I'm stopping at 32 weeks. At least that's the plan.

Re: Those with physical jobs, when did you take maternity leave?
I'm a retail manager and work 45+ hours a week which ends up being at least 9 hours a day on my feet. The work load has been TREMENDOUS lately and i just can't handle the lifting, bending, standing, ladder stuff so I finally put in my notice i will be starting my maternity leave at the beginning of wk 38.
However, if my husband wasn't laid off and finances werent an issue I would have stopped a while ago.

I'm an RN and so far so good at 29 weeks. (12.5 hrs shifts, 3 days a week, on your feet the whole time, possible heavy lifting of patients) I plan on working as long as I can up until my due date. Most girls so far end up going out 2-4 wks early.

Re: Those with physical jobs, when did you take maternity leave?
I was working two jobs when I got PG. One was waitressing (part-time) and the other was a mainly sitting job (full-time). I did stop the waitressing at around week 20. I probably would've gone longer (maybe another month or two) had I not had the other full-time job. But at week 34, I was put on modified bedrest for some complications and even had to give up my sitting job. If you are healthy and having a good PG, no need to change. But if you are lifting heavy things, then you may need something else. Waitressing isn't heavy lifting. Just trays of food.

Re: Those with physical jobs, when did you take maternity leave?
with DD I worked until 5 months and then went on light duty (a desk job) and worked until she was born.
This time I am working one job until the end of June and the other, not sure yet...hoping to do light duty for as long as possible, but they are telling me that once I get to 28 weeks I will be SO uncomfortable, that I won't be doing much of anything!
