Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
So I just found out that my induction date will be next week, 1 week past my due date, if I dont go into labor before then. Im TERRIFIED of this. As of now I have to get the Cervadil the night before, and then start Pitocin in the morning...She also said I have to fast from midnight the night before the Pitocin...how will I have the energy for labor if I haven't eaten anything??
Im so bummed at the idea of this...
Please share your induction story with me.
TIA

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced 1 week and a day past my due date and I had a really good experience. I got the cervadil around 9 pm and they told me it would take 12 hours. I was in labor after just a couple of hours. My water broke on its own at 5 am and the baby was out before 9:30 am. I only pushed for maybe 20 mins. They let me have a turkey sandwich around 10:30 pm--said nothing after that. But honestly between the contractions and adrenaline, I didn't feel the least bit hungry and had energy to push.
I was scared too, but it really went smoothly!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced with both of my kids at 40w3d. It went almost exactly the same for both of them. I had to be at the hospital at 10pm and went out to dinner on our way to both and ate a HUGE meal so I never felt hungry through either labor so I recommend that
I had the cervadil around 1am, pitocin around 6am, and had DC1 at 7:21pm and DC2 at 6:44pmn.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced at 42 weeks. They had me come in at 9pm for the induction, so I made sure to eat a large dinner before heading in. I had to fill out lots of paperwork and gave my medical history to everyone and their grandmother. They put in the cervadil about midnight and gave me some pain meds to help me fall asleep (i was already having contractions). They took the cervadil out at noon the next day and broke my water. They started Pitocin and I got my Epidural. I was on Pitocin all day until 11pm. I never progressed beyond 3 cm and I had a fever and severe neck pain. The baby's heartrrate was getting erratic, so we decided to go for a c-section. I delivered my son via c-section at 11:37pm.
I won't lie, it was really hard. To be honest, I often wish I could have gone straight to the c-section (I am having a scheduled one with this baby).

Hunger will be the least of your problems. Seriously, you won't think about it.
It was not fun, and it was a loonnngggg process (over 40 hours for me; 5 hours of pushing), but worth it!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I had a good experience and a successful induction at 40 weeks. My ob would not let me go late due to high blood pressure.
I did not need the Cervadil since I was already a percentage effaced. I was given pitocin around 9 am and had my dd by 4 pm!!!!!!!!! It was a quick labor for the most part and I pushed her out with literally 4 pushes!!! The only scary thing is I took the epidural because the contractions were really intense and that made my dd's heart rate drop quickly. If I hadn't pushed her out as quick as I did I would have ended up in an emergency c section.
Overall though it was a good experience and I was able to deliver vaginally like I had wanted to.
Good luck!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I also was induced at 40 weeks and had a successful induction. I went in the night before And before I went in I had a huge dinner. At 8pm the cervidil was inserted. At 8 the next morning it was taken out and I was 2cm dilated 100% effaced. Around 930 they started the pitocin and broke my water. I was 3cm at that time. A couple of hours later they upped the pitocin which was very painful and a little while later I got the epi. The dr checked me again and I was 6cm. An hour later I was fully dilated and ready to push. I pushed for 1 1/2 hours and DD was born at 5:11pm. Lots of luck!!!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced @ 38 weeks, but I was already 4 cm dialated, so I didn't need cervadil. They started the pit. @ 4:00 and baby was born @ 11:10. It went really smoothly. Since it was my second baby, my contractions AFTER the baby was born were terrible. I felt like I was still in labor! Thank the lord for pircocet (sp?)

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
Please don't worry. Induction is not as scary as it seems. I have had 2 very successful inductions. With DD I was 5 days late and not progressed at all. I had cervadil and was supposed to have pitocin in the morning but the cervdil did the trick. My labor was 13 hrs start to finish. With DS I was induced early due to his size. My Dr stripped my membranes in the office to help me start dilating. In the hospital I was dilated 2 cm and he broke my water. I didn't progress after that and had pitocin. This labor was 7 hrs start to finish.
With DS they had me come in at 6 am and didn't get around to my induction until 3pm. I was starving. I lived off of ice chips and sucking candy.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced at 38w6days due to pre eclampsia.
I was sent from my doctors office to the hospital, so they started me on pitocin at 2:30pm, broke my water at 3:30ish, got an epi like an hour later, and delivered my DS at 12:31am. It really wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced with both DD's
DD # 1 I needed the cervadil with because I was not yet dialated. I got it at 9pm my water broke on its own at 3:15 am and i had DD at 3:28 pm no pitocin needed. I pushed for aprox 30 min. I had a wonderful experience and chose to be induced with DD #2 who I just had 3 weeks ago.
With DD # 2 I was already 3 cm and 50% effaced so I did not need the cervadil, they started my pitocin and broke my water at 12pm and DD arrived at 3:31pm after 2 pushes it was amazingly fast and painless (after my epidural that is lol) actually after my epidural I gave birth 20 minutes later so I kinda wish I didnt have it cause I was numb for so much longer then I needed.
Both experiences were completley different but both wonderful, I would do it all over again if I have a 3rd.
Good luck you will be fine and being nervous is completley normal I was more nervous the second time then the first believe it or not.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced with DD at 37.5 weeks with zero dilation or effacement. Got the cervadil and then the epidural and then the picotin. I actually slept on & off through most of my active labor and my nurse woke me up when it was time to push. Pushed 20-30 minutes and out came DD!
12 hours from start to finish and a fantastic experience!!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced on my due date. the checkup the nite before the dr. said i was 3cm dialated and 100 effaced. I went to the hospital at 6am that morning; I ate before I left. I believe they told me to keep it light.
I was only on Pitocin, no cervadil. Its a long day, but all went well.
Everyone's experience is different. I was in labor 14 hrs, pushed for 2. But all was fine in the end.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced at 39 weeks 4 days due to chronic high blood pressure. I didnt need the cervadil because my cervix was ripe, so I just got the pictocin. I had a great induction adn would do it again in a heartbeat. I labored for 14 hours. It's really not as bad as it sounds. Good Luck!

Yes, they had me change into a gown and hooked me up to the fetal monitor in the delivery room. They had a great chair in the room that laid back almost flat that DH slept in.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
i was induced with both boys at 38 weeks (medical issues) first one i was 2cm dialated so they started me on pitocin. 36 hrs later after starting the pitocin and 3 hrs of pushing ds was born.
my second i thought was going to be a peice of cake bc i already did this and everyone says ur second is much easier than ur first. went in for cervidil on friday and it didnt do anything. they inserted it again - nada. not even 2 cm. they then started the epidural bc i needed to get a balloon foley in my cervix to get me to dialate to 4cm, right after they inserted that they started me on pitocin. ds was born monday (2.5 days from when my first cervidl was started )
i am not the norm though
good luck!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced at 41 weeks.
When I went to the doctor that morning to get checked I was only 1cm dilated, water did not break, no labor.
Checked into the Hospital at 9pm to start cervidal, they did not actually insert it until 1am . They checked me 12 hours later and I was the same pretty much, so they wanted to try another dose and I said H-E-L-L NO!!!
I was misrable to be honest with you, just sitting there waiting, could not eat, had IV in me and had to get up and pee every 5 min's.
I told my doctor I wanted a C-section at that point and glad I did because I ended up having a 9lb 1oz baby boy
Every single story is different so I would just wait and see what happens. Either way, you will have your DC in your hands soon enough.

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
My induction was fine - no cervidil - not necessary since I was already effaced and almost 2 cm dilated. I was induced at 40w6d, took about 14 hours in total, w/2 hours of pushing (DD was sunny side up), and still ended in a vaginal delivery. I really couldn't eat much before I went in b/c my OB had changed the date on me at the last minute and I was too nervous, but trust me, food was the farthest thing from my mind. I was thirsty though and my nurse would let me have sips here and there of some apple juice to get me through - that helped a lot. Make sure you're hydrated. And listen to all the LIFers - induction sounds really scary, but it's not at all. Good luck!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
I was induced at 41 weeks. DS was not dropping and the doctor suspected I would need a c-section. They actually gave me an epidural really early on anticipating that. They tried the Cervadil but the contractions were putting pressure on DS' cord making it hard for him to breathe and his heart rate would drop. They stopped that. Then later they tried the Pitocin but that resulted in the same reaction.
So after being admitted at 5:00 p.m. on 6/1/10, I finally had a c-section at 4:37 p.m. on 6/2/10. I didn't feel tired (aside from not really sleeping in L&D) - probably from adrenaline. But again, I never really felt a contraction because the epidural was in me all that time anticipating that I would probably end up with a c-section anyway.
It was me who wanted to wait and try to deliver vaginally.

Similar story. Went in a 9pm. Got the cervadil. Within an hour was in severe pain bad contractions and DDs heartrate was erratic from the meds. Took the Cervadil out and gave me Pitocin. Only got to 4 cm. Got an epi and then Dr. decided at noon to do a C Section since once they broke my water DD had passed mercomium in the womb and I developed a fever ( was from hard labor- but they didnt know that then)
Wound up with a c section. Honestly, it was not that bad at all!

Re: Pregnancy Crahser...Talk to me if you had to be inuced
Was induced the week of the due date because Xmas was coming up and i guess it's more convenient for the doctors... :P
It didn't take so I had to get a c-section. The doctor won't allow me to go home after having been induced because there may be complications...
It turns out that my baby couldn't come out because the umb. cord was wrapped around his neck twice. Had the doctor done an ultrasound, she would have seen this...
My advice? Make when you're hooked up that you can still walk about. You wll need to get up often to use the restroom and the nurses won't let you out of bed while you're induced. :P
More importanly, make sure your doctor does an ultrasound if the induction doesn't work!
