Ours took about 3-4 days to dry but it was really hot and humid (August). However, the smell was horrible and so strong. It lasted for days and days. We stayed out of our house for over a week. I was pregnant and not taking any chances.

Mine were dry w/in 48 hrs but we did water-based and we could only wear socks for a week, also no furniture for at least two weeks. Honestly I stayed out of the house for the weekend after (the last coat was applied on a friday) back in the house on Monday it wasn't so bad (prob b/c we went w/the water based) just kept some windows open...I will say that I was out of the house the entire week he was applying the coats of finish though.

Re: re-doing hardwood floors...timing?

give yourself at least a week. we just did ours. oil smells worse than water based. we did water-based. you can walk on it in socks after 24 hours, 48 hrs with shoes, 2 weeks to fully cure.

however, ours were done when it was REALLY HUMID and they had to be redone since the wood grain raised up. Thank god we had a few days to spare before we moved. FYI
