taking a dress in... how much is fair?!

My friend is in a bridal party and she asked me to recommend a place to alterations. I did...

The place I go to is where my DH alters all his suits and they do a great job for a good price. My DH's last suit needed major work in the pants and jacket and it was $30, (compared to burlington coat factory in house tailor wantes $90 for the same amount of work!!)

So we go and she needs it taken in from the bust all they way to the rear (its a mermaid cut). It comes to $45. I haggle and haggle and nothing, this lady wont budge. My friend pays it.

I cant help but feel kinda bad cause I think its too much!! She needed it done asap though, ugh I dont know... now im thinking she maybe could have got it for less?

I think that's fair. My regular tailor has taken in and out bridesmaid dresses and I have paid $35 for a minor take in at bust to $85 for taken in all over. I think $45 is definitely reasonable.

That seems totally reasonable. I just paid $80 to have a bridesmaid dress altered in the bust and hem. Chat Icon

That is totally reasonable for the amount of work that needs to be done and a lot less than she would have paid had she gotten it altered at the salon.

Very reasonable!
I just paid $60 to have a dress (that had an inner lining as well) hemmed ($30) and taken in at the bust ($30)

so $45 is quite good Chat Icon
