What perennial would you get?
So for Mother's Day, my IL's are getting me a perennial for the garden.
Can someone suggest something? Our yard gets a crazy amount of sun (no trees) so it has to be something that can take the sun. I'd like to put it on the right hand side of the garden here in the below pic. That plant is no longer there because the dog ate it!

Thanks!

Re: What perennial would you get?
Are you looking for something with a flower or just green for a long time?
Hostas are nice - there are a few types - and they get little purple flowers in the summer, and the green leaves stay green until the fall. Also, when they get bigger, you can split them!
Peonies - mine should be opening soon, it needs to get a little bit warmer. They are gorgeous but don't stay open for a long time.
Daylilies - lots of colors
Sedum - also green for awhile and you can split it when it gets larger.
Delphinium - beautiful, a few colors also
Black eyes susans - they will stay out for awhile and they can tend to spread over time - which can be good b/c you can transplant them.

I would mix echinachea (coneflower) and phlox - they are both tall and would look nice against the fence.

Re: What perennial would you get?
Thank you for the suggestions!
I am looking for something with color that would look nice against the fence and do well with the sun overall.
I'm going to look into these plants. Any others?

Re: What perennial would you get?
Peony - I have 3 of them - They are about $15 each - Oberlies in Bellmore has a nice selection. I bought 2 there 3 years ago and the bloom huge pink flowers - Make sure you put a tomato cage around them because the flowers are two heavy and fall over and I just bought another one on sunday for my front flower bed which I am redoing.
I would also get an azalea bush - The flowers only last a few weeks in May but they will turn into a Shrub afterwards
