Anyone adopt from Petfinder?

I found a little dog on petfinders and fell in love with her. I spoke to a volunteer last week and she said we sounded great. Still waiting to hear more, anyone have any experiences with how long it takes.

If I'm not mistaken, petfinders just list pets for adoption for multiple shelters, agencies, etc.
So I think it would depend on the specific place that has the doggie for adoption.

I found my dog on Petfinder, but as mentioned above, it is really just a listing service for shelters and rescue organizations.

Our process was just a couple of weeks, but it was agony! We had to fill out an application, provide references, schedule a meeting, schedule a home visit, and then spend another few days convincing the woman that while one tiny portion of our yard is not fenced in that it will be as soon as we finish landscaping AND we will never let the dog go near that part of the yard unattended.

Then she FINALLY approved us!! She actually tried to push off the date we were supposed to pick her up because she was busy but we wanted her so badly at that point we said we'd come to her whenever was good for her!

Best thing we ever did. Can't imagine my life without my dog!

What a great story!!!! I already spoke to a woman from the specific rescue and did a casual interview. She said we sounded great( sahm, fenced yard, owned 3 of the same breed in the past etc) she said she was going to spearhead our application - which was like 50 questions. I just love this little dog already and am driving myself nuts checking my mail and the website a million times a day. I guess I have to work on my patience:)

Yup, we found our 2nd Lab Ginger via Petfinder (rescue was Labs4Rescue). Rescues can consider extreme impatience as a warning sign, since adopters should be looking for a forever dog and be able to wait for the right one.

But I KNOW what you're saying!! We had to wait until our dog was shipped to us from Texas, and then she got sick and we missed the transport and had to wait an additional two weeks. And that was after going through the questionnaire, home visit, meeting other dogs that didn't fit the bill, 2 trips to Connecticut, and numerous calls to adoption coordinators and Foster families!

I don't want to send off any warning signs but I also want them to know how passionate I am about this little one. She look so much my last furbaby who I lost in Feb. When my son sees her picture he says Momo came back. Breaks my heart, I have been looking on petfinders for months now. Thanks for responding atleast now I know there is a long process to endure. Hopefully this story will have a happy ending like yours.
