hardwood floors- need advice please!

hey all- looking for some advice

we are re-doing our home; we have a split, where the kitchen is the back right wall of the house, and the dining room is the back left- well, it was- we added on an 18 foot extension. so the back right is now the eating area of our kitchen, and the back left, behind the dining room is a family room.

there are no walls, so the only thing separating the rooms will be a couch for the family room

we need to choose the flooring. at first i was going to tile the eating area of the kitchen and do hardwood floors everywhere else. then i thought about tiling the whole extension-eating area and family room, but i dont love the idea of tiles in a family room

for those of you that have hardwood floors in the kitchen, do you like them? do you regret them? can they take a beating?

any advice would be great- thank you

i did hw floors thruoghout my house. i especially love it in the kitchen.

they can take a beating and they also always look clean. i went for a moderate caramel color- too dark and it shows dirt easily.


i am personally not a fan of tile...and i also happen to think that the same flooring makes the house look larger and continuous.
