Wearing a non-maternity dress when you have a belly...?

I will be attending a corporate meeting with DH and his company in a few weeks. They have a dress code of dress pants or a dress for women.
I don't have any formal/dressy maternity dresses nor a need to buy one. MIL can lend me a dress with an empire waist. It is clearly not a maternity dress, but I AM showing.

Deal with it for one day or get a proper dress?

As long as it fits okay I would. I've worn a few non-maternity blouses for work and they've been okay.

As long as the front isn't a foot higher than the back, I think you are MORE than fine!!!

nope, it doesn't come up that much and that's what I was thinking too. It definitely fits around the rest of me.

I think I will put a shawl/jacket over the top and help cover if I need Chat Icon

I just wore a non maternity dress for a wedding and I'm 28 weeks. As long as your belly is not making the dress alot shorter in the front it should be fine.

I wore a non-maternity dress around 19 weeks to a christening. I had a belly by then too and the dress was a size or 2 larger than I usually wear, but it looked fine. It was empire waist and didnt' fall too short at all in the front.

What about the maternity skirt and top you have? I remember borrowing it from you, but never needed it.

I'm not wearing a dress if that helps. Nice pants and top. Do you have any maternity dress pants? I know you have plenty of maternity tops that would be fine.

I wore a non maternity dress at my nieces christening when I was 4 months and it fit fine. I was definitely showing to family but people who didn't know I was pg thought I gained weight.

I still have that outfit, but I am a size bigger than that right now Chat Icon

I could go for pants too (which I may do) but I don't have dressy pants either. Well, I THOUGHT I did, and I can't find them Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've worn non-maternity dresses my entire preg. I think if it's the right cut, no one would know the difference.

Even dressy capri's would be fine, if you have. You are welcome to try on my pants to see if the length is good.

But bottom line, wear what you are comfortable in! Chat Icon

I was planning on capris, but the letter said pants or slacks or something, so I was doubting if that would be acceptable..?

Love ya, but do you REALLY think your pants would fit me lengthwise? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe I will pull the preggo card here Chat Icon

Letter? I didn't even see a letter. Chat Icon

But if Capri's are acceptable, then you can borrow my pants and pretend they are capri's on you! Chat Icon

I'm sorry but I need to disagree with everyone - this is a corporate event for your DH, and I think you need to dress appropriately. Try to find something that you can wear again during your pregnancy, but I think it is important to look professional and not sloppy.

Most of my 'maternity' wardrobe is non maternity - And I work in a 'business professional' office - so I'm in a suit or dress every day -
As long as it fits well and looks appropriate, there's no rule that says you have to break out the maternity clothes b/c you have a belly !!

Totally agree - I just think if you are questioning it, you should keep looking. Especially with a small belly you can pull off some non-maternity.

Re: Wearing a non-maternity dress when you have a belly...?

I wore my PROM dress to my cousins wedding when I was 38+ weeks preggo with DS Chat Icon It is empire waist and to the floor, plus I carried really small so it actually looked great on me (at least I thought so, I can't seem to find a picture now!!). And most of my "maternity" stuff is regular clothes, I hate the way most maternity stuff makes me look.
