That was my other c-section ?

Those of you that did have a c-section, do you think you will have or did you have a VBAC with your 2nd child? I was watching those baby shows on TV again, and they just kept saying how dangerous it was to have a VBAC because of uterine rupture. That scares the heck out of me. How do you feel about this? I don't think I will be able to have a VBAC even if I wanted to with another baby since they say the 2nd baby is usually bigger. I've always been curious, scared and embarassed about having a baby vaginally. Though having a c-section wasn't no picnic either. I was in full blown labor for 6 hours before they did a c-section. I think it hurt a lot worse because I wasn't expecting the labor since I had the c-section planned. I just think I missed out on the excitement and the feeling of when they placed the baby on your chest for the first time. When I had the c-section, my arms were tied down so I couldn't even touch him. Then they handed him to my DH and he left the room with him while they were still working on me. I don't know... I have mixed feelings about this. I figure the c-section is a lot easier. I'm really scared about the pain doing it vaginally. I know what labor feels like, but not the baby actually coming out.

Re: That was my other c-section ?

I was the type to not wanting to take any form of drugs. Go all natrual was my goal. but my first one had a very big head even if I wanted to I wouldnt have been able to push him through they said. So I was in labor several hours and they finally gave up my water never even broke whihc made it worse. The second time I was actualy scheuled to go in for a c section cause he was breech and went into labor that morning. it turns out when they did a sono in the hospitasl he was facing th eright way but I was having bad labor pains they asked me if I wanted to do natural and I said "I am here and this kid is wanting to come out so however you want to do it just get it out. " Not get the baby out get IT out. it was actually funny how it came out.

As far as missing out on certain things yeah, I feel I did and yes I think I would have been totally embarrassed by certain things that go on in th edelivery room./ I did miss out both times on holding the baby. other then being tied down, the first time around I had my hand in a cast so it was so hard to hold my son which was hard on the bonding process for me. For my second guy everybody left me. my older son had a cold so he stayed with my in-laws and they couldnt come. Hubby had to work and was goingt o take off when the baby came (which he never did) My folks asked if they could go on vacation the same day he was born, so I was left in the hospital preety mcuh by myself even when I got home. My younger son and I, I feel have a strong bond cause of being so close afterwards.

Re: That was my other c-section ?

I know there are many women who VBAC's and have no complications but a close friend of mine lost her 2nd baby to uterine rupture during labor after her first child was delivered by c-section. She went into labor on her due date and during contractions her uterus ruptured. She chose to have a vaginal delivery because she knew the risks of surgery (she is a nurse) and decided the chances that her uterus would rupture were less but unfortunately her incision hadn't completely healed. I have to add that her children would have been 14 months apart where Melissa your pregnancies wouldnt be this close. So I would ask your doctor and do what feels comfortable for you.

Re: That was my other c-section ?

I have to say this topic is very conflicting for me. I went into labor and pushed for 2 hours and experienced that part of labor only to have a c/s because she would not descend and was thought to be big. My c/s experience was not good, and I do think I missed out on an important bonding moment of holding her right after delivery. I had to wait 3 hours. When I think about having another baby, I would LOVE to have a VBAC and have the experience of normal labor and delivery. However I think I would be too scared of a uterine rupture, I know it is not common, but if it happened to me because I choose VBAC and the outcome was bad, I don't know how I would go on, so out of fear of that, Im sure I will decide on another c/s. Although I will always wonder what it would have been like....

Re: That was my other c-section ?

I'm in denial over this big time. I REALLY want a VBAC but, my doctor just looks at me like "Tracy it's not going to happen" AS soon as I heard twins I knew they were pretty much going to insist on it. As long as they are born healthy thats all that matters. But, I really just want to know the feeling of labor & pushing. My son is going to be 4 so I feel that my inscision should be WELL healed by now.

Re: That was my other c-section ?

I had a c-section with my daughter after nine hours of labor and because I had a panic attack on the table I had to be knocked out and because I was out my dh was not allowed to be present for the birth. I so wish I could have been awake to hear her cry for the first time and to see her and for my husband to have been able to hold her. even though I had a c I still felt very connected to her and felt like we bonded the first time I held her. I would like to try and have a vbac for the 2nd just because I wished I could have with katie. My doctor suggested that i wait at least 18 months before trying to get pregnant again to reduce the chances of any complications.
