Does anyone know anything about Medicaid?

I am trying to get an answer for my friend.

She is married w. 3 kids. They are on her DH insurance. Every year the insurance from the job goes up and this year it went up so high that it's honestly taking too much money out their budget. It cut into their food shopping budget. It's getting tough for them.

She was thinking of taking themselves off the private insurance and going on medicaid or child health plus for just the kids.

Can they even do that? I told her I didn't think it was possible since his employer offers insurance. They just can't afford to keep it but they have to be insured. Her oldest is asthmatic.
They would be fine paying a smaller monthly fee than what they are paying now. Which is over 400 a month.

I don't know much about anything with Medicaid or CHP.

If her DH is working, it is doubtful they would be able to get Medicaid.


There are many NY programs available. It is easier to qualify for children. It is almost impossible to qualify for adults (some need you to make less than $14K a year)

I am not sure how it works with the other insurance though, if they would be able to just drop it like that? I know we were not able to do that for my mother.
