GD GIRLS-HELP!
so i had my appointment today with the dietician and i am so lost and overwhelmed. she gave me a booklet that outlined all kinds of food and explained serving sizes. then she gave me a grid that she marked how many servings of each to have at which time of the day. i've never been good at planning meals. i'm feeling very overwhelmed that i have to do this. maybe we can start a help/support thread for girls who have GD to help each other with ideas for meals...tell each other some things we eat. please help

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
Everyone's plan is different and it really just comes down to portion control.
It will take a little while to get used to it...but don't be hard on yourself or overstress!
I bumped the GD support thread for you.

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
I got my results back today from the one hour and they were elevated. I'm nervous about failing the 3 hour test since my level was a lot higher than 130.

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
I was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks and I'm now 39 weeks along. I was so shocked since I had gained only about 10 pounds since then and was feeling great.
But I have been able to avoid insulin so far and baby is doing great. The trick I found was that whenever I want to eat carbs (like pasta) I HAVE to eat protein with it. I can't just eat a bowl of pasta, it needs to contain chicken or other meat. Then my glucose numbers are ok.
It took me 3 weeks to find a diet that worked for me, and you'll find something that works for you too. For me, I realized I can have heavier meals at dinner and be ok, but never for breakfast.
I was so overwhelmed and sad when I was first diagnosed and now it's not as big a deal. Testing your blood is a bit of a pain several times a day but you get used to it.
Breakfast ideas: chicken sausage, eggs Snack: Greek yogurt, cheese, 5-6 saltine crackers Lunch: turkey sandwich on whole wheat, salad, chicken quesadilla on whole wheat wrap and light on the cheese, Dinner: whole wheat pasta with chicken, chicken salad, grilled fish, grilled chicken

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
This is what I'm nervous about. I'm having and both babies are big! I failed the one hour by 32 points and I don't feel too optimistic about the three hour. Although I think I'm eating right, I'm eating the "wrong" healthy foods. I eat a lot of fruit and yogurt, drink a lot of milk and OJ.
If you find out that you have GD, I know that a nutritionist will help with a food plan but do you have to have insulin shots as well?

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
my typical meals:
Breakfast: Whole Wheat Toast with pb and glass of milk
Snack: piece of fruit, rice cakes or crackers, cheese or more pb
Lunch: Sandwich with two onces of protien like eggs or turkey, tuna etc. 1Veggie like carrot sticks or cucumbers in lowc arb dressing, 1 piece of Fruit
Snack: Yogurt (Dannon light and fit) and crackers with cheese or pb
Dinner: 3-6 onces of protien like chicken, lean ground beef, or ill make eggs. cup of pasta, rice, or other carb, a small salad, a veggie and a fruit.
Snack: At first it was pb on toast or rice cakes, but when my numbers went up they had me lower the pb which I lived on for months and elimate nightly carbs so I started eating a few sting cheeses and a hard boiled egg

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
some people freak aobut the peanut better because they are paranoid about the baby having peanut allergy, my doc felt it was fine as did the specialist. I lived on pb as a staple in my gd diet for months before I got sick of it and needed to lower/elimate it.

im pretty sure insulin is the last option. first they change your diet, then if that doesnt work they put you on meds and if that doesnt work then insulin.
i just got back from learning how to use my glucose monitor so now i can really get into changing my diet. its been rough since i havent felt good the past few days and dont have an appeitite. on a bright note, when they tested me at the office just now i had great levels!
thank you to all the girls posting what you eat!

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
I was extremely overwhelmed when I was first diagnosed with GD. Especially because this is PG#2 and I didn't have it with my first. I felt that there would be no way that I could do it & stick to the diet. I was afraid about being put on meds & sticking my finger. Now 5 weeks later, it is really no big deal. It becomes part of your routine and you really do stick to it because you are doing it for someone else. I haven't had chocolate or sweets in 5 weeks. I have actually lost weight on this GD diet. The only downside is that I literally eat the same things every week.
My GD is diet controlled but I plan to cheat a tiny bit on Easter if this baby isn't out by that time! Good luck!

I lived on PB both pregnancies & my son loves PB. We introduced PB around 1 years old & he is fine but I know that every case is different.

I did the same thing! I didn't want to talk to anyone yesterday. I'm also taking the 3 hour on Wednesday. Where are you taking it?? I'm going to the Sunrise Labs in Seaford. I'd laugh if you were taking it there, too!
Thank you all for posting what you eat!! I love peanut butter!!!

Re: GD GIRLS-HELP!
I had GD with DS and am being watched closely this time but not diagnosed yet. I have been really good about exercising this pregnancy. If I eat something high carb I go for a brisk walk or go to the gym. I have also been lifting light weights this PG. When I do that, my blood sugar is always 80-110 no matter what I eat! I'm gonna write a book if I pass the test in 12 days...I should be worse this PG since I'm 10lbs heavier and 4+ yrs older...
