So the cops came to our door at 6 am...
apparently some old man hit one of our cars parked down the block and a woman leaving her house for work saw it and called it in (God Bless her!)--he hit it at an angle that tore the right bumper right off    and DH is seeing if he can rig it so it's driveable...he must have saw that the lady was a witness, because dumbazz came back!!!!
Scary thing waking up with two cops at your door (but they were kinda cute and VERY nice so it wasn't too bad)
I'm trying to look at it in a humorous light--one of the cops said my fave quote--"He's old--really old. Not drunk, maybe senile!"  He was trying to convince them it wasn't him and he didn't get into an accident--um, someone saw you get out and try to put the bumper back on idiot--AND YOU CAME BACK!!!!
"He's old. Really Old..."

On the bright side no one was in the car and no one is hurt
Yes, this isn't PC but most elderly drivers no longer have the quick relfexes and good spatial relations to be driving anymore. They are desperately afraid to lose their independence that driving affords them but really, so many of them are a hazard. He's lucky he didn't hurt someone or kill someone.
Unfortunately, the AARP is such a powerful lobbying group and has fought for years against re-testing of older drivers.
Sorry about the damage but I'm glad everyone is ok.

I completely agree with you...and so did the cops. They are taking necessary steps to revoke his license. He doesn't have too much going for him being that he denies the accident while someone physically SAW him do it and get out...
You had to see him, it looked like you could blow him over with a feather and he was clearly not completely "with it"...but you are right about the difficulty in getting people like him off the road...the cops had to let him drive away while they start the proceedings to get his license taken away...

I always say this under my breath when driving. Elderly people should not be driving and they choose to drive these big azz cars too!

so DH rigged it back to the car, and it actually doesn't look bad at all...I mean, I wouldn't notice if I didn't know...
Don't get me wrong the whole bumper can just be peeled right off so it needs to be replaced, but at least we don't have to drive around like idiots who's car got hit for a week...

holy crap; this happened to my best friend last weekend! at about midnight, they heard a bang....a drunk driver hit her FIL's car! He had left it there....she got arrested right there in my friend's driveway!

Glad everything worked out. My grandmother hit a pole in a parking lot and we had to fight with her about not driving. It took a long time to convince her it was time. She was okay about it for a while and then last week I mentioned to her that dh and I were starting to look for a new car she said, I can take your old one and start driving again- UGH. It is so tough!

as long as no one was hurt that is a good thing!! as for the cop being cute i posted about a 911 call yeasterday that a some woman called 911 to have a cop come back to her house because she wanted his number

Had this happen to me some years ago, only it was a teenager. The road was icy, he was speeding and he plowed right into a big old Buick I had parked in front of my house. He took off. My car only got a small dent on the door; his was demolished. The best part was that when he hit the car, his license part came off and landed under my car. You should have seen the look on his face when the police officer pulled up to my door 15 minutes after I reported it with him in the back seat. Absolutely priceless!
