Sleep and Plays??

So I ventured to the outlets today and stopped by Carters and they had really cute sleep and plays for $7. I picked up a few newborn and a few 0-3 but am interested from BTDT moms...

How many sleep and plays do you think you need to start? And how many newborn size?

I'm assuming I'd buy more 0-3 months and worse case they're a little big for a little before she grows into them....but I want to go back and get more as they gave out coupons to use in April and I know that a lot of babies live in sleep and plays for awhile...

Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: Sleep and Plays??

It depends on when your child is born. DD was born in January and we dressed her exclusively in them at the beginning. She was in nbs from birth until about 8 weeks (she was only 7 lbs 2 oz at birth though). She's about 10.5 lbs now and she's in 0-3s and 3 month clothing.

We just stopped having her in the sleepers overnight yesterday when the weather was in the 70s. But even now we have some feet-less ones we have her in since she's supposed to wear one layer more than we do. We'll probably be dressing her exclusively in thin onesies and maybe sleep sacs or pants or just socks depending on how warm it is in the bedroom.

Some people swear by zippers -- I liked snaps because I hate having to take the whole sleeper off to change her diaper.

I had about 10-15 sleepers when she was a nb and we have about 8-12 of them in 0-3s. Once I figured out which type I like best, I went to Once Upon a Child (it's a consignment shop) and bought about 5 of that type. They've been great! They're usually $2.50 to $3.50.

HTH!

Re: Sleep and Plays??

We ended up needing the newborn sizes but only for a few weeks (she was born 6 lbs 12 oz). In the beginning, at night she was in a onesie but swaddled with a fleece Halo swaddle sleepsack so we didn't use as many sleep and plays (we had about 6-8 of them but she wore them more during the day than for sleep. I think she didn't end up ever wearing a couple of them before she outgrew them. )
Now DD is 3 months and has about 7-8 of the 0-3 month sized sleep n plays and has just started with 3-6 month sizes. We do laundry about 2x's a week so it is plenty. Now that she is not swaddled she sleeps in these every night. I do prefer the zip up ones, bc some of the snap ones only snap down one leg and it's hard to get her leg into the other side!! She STTN though so it isn't really an issue bc we don't have to change her really until morning. She also doesn't really pee/poop thru ever either though.

I do find that she outgrows these quicker than she does onesies/outfits. She is not especially long either--50th percentile since birth.

Re: Sleep and Plays??

DS was 8.2lbs at birth and wore newborn size for about 3 weeks - 1 month. He lived in those for the first 2 months. I would get a bunch (DS blew out diapers like it was his job! LOL) so I needed to have enough so I wasn't having to wash every day.

We probably had 8-10 to start.
