Re: Disneyland (Cali) restaurant recs
Inside... Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans (my fave). Plaza Inn has a great chicken dinner (but you can't book that in advance). I would also recommend doing the lunch or dinner at the Trattoria in DCA to get a fast pass to World of Color.
At the hotels... Storytellers, for the breakfast buffet. Goofy's Kitchen buffet is all right, good if you have kids. If you want FANCY you can't go wrong with Napa Rose.
DTD doesn't have many good options... stay far away from Tortilla Jos. Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen is good and ESPN Zone has great burgers!
Outside the parks... SONIC!!! (if you have a car), Mimi's Cafe is w/i walking distance, as is Red Robin and Buca De Bepo

Buca de Beppo is a great family style restaurant!
In the Disneyland Hotel is Goofy's Kitchen - they have the character breakfast and dinner.
House of Blues is a good time too.

We love doing the character breakfast at the Plaza Cafe (I think that's the name). Also like the Marketplace in New Orleans (inside park) for lunch.

Would this be appropriate with kids? We're going to Disneyland in May.

Sure! Both Trattoria and Ariel's Grotto have a kids menu. There are no characters at AG for the dinner package, so I don't think one has a huge advantage over the other.

Napa Rose at the Grand Californian. Fine dining- One of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Don't miss this one!

Re: Disneyland (Cali) restaurant recs
I used to live in California and I worked for Disney on property for several years, so if you have any questions, feel free to FM.
WIll you have a car there? That determines out of park recs.
If you haven't been there, understand that the layout is different. The two parks face each other in an esplanade and it's very easily to park hop. I don't know if you're staying at one of the three hotels but Downtown Disney connects the hotels to the park, so to speak.
Breakfast-check out Storyteller's at the Grand Californian. It's hands down the best breakfast anywhere near the park and the one place that I must go whenever I go to visit. The coffee shop on Main Street is unique in that if you're a coffee drinker, as I am, you can go back for unlimited refills throughout the day as long as you save your receipt. It really adds up. Ihop and Denny's are also within walking distance from the park. There's also a Jamba Juice in Downtown Disney.
Lunch & Dinner- Blue Bayou, Yamabuki, Napa Rose are all pretty good but I'd recommend you make reservations through the dineline (714) 781-DINE. If you're steak eaters, Napa or Yamabuki are actually better than Steakhouse 55, in my opinion. Be sure to grab a bite to eat in New Orleans Square. Their soups and desserts are great but really people want the monte cristos. They started being served at Bayou but have since been taken from the menu and last I ate one was at Cafe Orleans. It's amazing, seriously. If you are planning to watch Fantasmic one night (which might be dark because of world of color, I'm not sure), make reservations slightly before the start of the performance. You will get great seats. You can also buy referred seating tickets at guest relations, which includes a snack box. The Jazz Kitchen at dtd is good, too. There's a Wetzels there for snacks and Tortilla Joe's has good quick service food. Goofy's kitchen and Ariel's Grotto ok for character dining but you might want to make reservations for that as well. Someone also mentioned Mimi's already but they are within walking distance and everything there is really fresh, fantastic and surprisingly cheap for a resort area.
If you have a car, it's a whole different story because there are so many options for dining. I'll be honest, I really miss the food out there!

It's not a restaurant, but an ice cream parlor. I forget the name, but it's by the entrance/exit on the left side when you're entering. We had the BESt waffle cones there. My SO and I were like two kids loving it. Enjoy ;)

There were quite a few kids at the Trattoria when we went. you sit outside, so it isn't like it is mega fancy or anything
