Going into the city with a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old
What stroller would you bring?
We will be going into Penn Station, down to Battery Park, then back to Union Square.
1. Side by side
2. Front to back
3. Sit n Stand
DS (2.5) will sit in a stroller all day, no problem, but we are thinking logistics with having to take the subway. I know the Sit n Stand is the smallest, but I would hate for him to not be able to rest on the way home.
WWYD???

I would want him in whatever is most comfortable for him.. I would probably do the side by side.. your DH can help you carry it up and down.. it's going to be a PITA no matter what stroller you bring.
I'm thinking about taking the kids to the St. Paddy's parade and I need to have my 2 1/2 YO in a stroller and shlepping just a single is stressing me lol

the lightest one. Luca can walk up the stairs of the subway. dude, carrying a stroller up the stairs no matter how light will be impossible with two kids.
eta: why wouldn't he be able to rest?

I think because the with a sit and stand, the oldest has a little spot/seat to sit but can't really lay back comfortably like in a stroller.
ETA: Its a tough call but I'd probably go with what they are going to be most comfortable in. The subway is always a PITA but seems like you're going to be doing a lot of walking around and I would want them to be as comfortable as possible.

Re: Going into the city with a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old
Can you post what type of side by side and front/back stroller you have?
I say take the easiest one to carry, one that your DH can carry the 1yo in the stroller. All the subway stops you mentioned have elevators. However, it's often annoying to find and wait for the elevators so we just take the stairs or escalator.
eta: I hope it is safe to assume that your DH is going with you.

Yes, he is - there is no way I'd go on my own with two little ones
I have a Chicco Trevi double (side by side) and the Chicco Together double (front to back). We haven't purchased a Sit n Stand yet.
Jess, he could definitely rest on the train but I don't know how long we'll be in the city for so I am nervous about him not being able to rest until late in the day. We have to be in Battery Park around 9:30am, and the party at Union Square is afterwards, so I think he would be okay but I have never had to worry about this before
We will also be with family so it is an option to take two small strollers but I would really rather not.

Take the double side by side!!!
We went in with just DS (before DD) and brought the chicco single and it was MURDER walking up 3 flights of stairs with it at one of the subway stations.
Take the lighter double stroller!

Re: Going into the city with a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old
I agree with the one that is easiest to carry. The subway is a biotch. I would also map out your trip to find the stations that have elevator access. I learned this on our first NYC trip when I walked about 40 city blocks from my brothers UES apartment to to the 51st street station. If Danny could carry the one Luca is most comfy in, I say go for it.

Honestly, I would go with 2 umbrella strollers since you are not going alone.
I have a Phil & Ted's double, which has the footprint of a single stroller, and it is still a PITA and struggle to weave in and out of people traffic in the city/the subway, etc.
Is there a reason you don't want to do 2 strollers?

LB - I have the sit and stand deluxe - you are more than welcome to borrow it. I never use it ever.
ETA: Go with whichever is the lightest.

We could, but we only have one lightweight single.
Diana, thanks for the offer, if we don't buy one this weekend I might take you up on it!

100% back-to-back, NOT side-by-side. Streets are far too busy for that!!! Plus, they aren't going to fit in all doorways. I agree, you want your kids to be comfortable so I wouldn't do the sit and stand.

From everything you've written, I say take a SINGLE umbrella stroller and buy a super cheap umbrella stroller at the BRU in Union Square. They cost like $15.
We have a city mini, which most people would consider a lightweight and we still use a super light stroller we got at BRU for like $15 often on the bus.
Otherwise, go with the front and back as others have suggested.
