BFing and Passover question
I always keep Passover: no bread, pasta, alcohol, etc. Do BFing mamas get a pass? Can I keep to the rules w/o hurting my supply?

Re: BFing and Passover question
IMO, depends... and also has to do a lot with how you feel about it, as well as what your rabbi suggests
I just think its NOT in the same category as fasting kwim? Your body doesn't get more nutrition from bread that it could get from matza, and unless it making you mentally unstable I don't think its "legit" to cheat on passover
Maybe I shouldn't talk, I'm a weird jew, I eat matza with ham on passover, but for me its enough to internalize the meanigfulness
do what's important to you

pregnant women dont get a pass on passover, both pregnant and nursing women are supposed to observe, its not like its a fast, you just cant eat bread products.

Re: BFing and Passover question
I'm pretty sure you don't get a pass
I'm not a fan of too much matza, but you don't have to stick to just that all the time there's still plenty of "kosher for Passover" foods to eat without it just being all matza or matza ball soup
I like baked chicken, veggies, deli meats rolled up without the matza or on Tom Toms, certain meats, chicken soup (of course no noodles or anything like that), brisket, potatoes, salads, fruits, etc

Re: BFing and Passover question
I observed passover while nursing both kids. While PG I did not as all I could keep down was bread. I don't think it is the same as a fast day. I would ask your rabbi.

if you're going to eat or not eat something that is going to do harm to yourself or your baby to observe any holiday, then you can absolutely modify whatever you need to keep yourself and your nursing baby healthy.
or have yourself a sephardic passover and eat rice and legumes...

Right, but not eating bread wont harm the baby unless i guess its the only thing you eat. According to Jewish law nursing and pregnant women are not exempt from observing passover (and actually according to jewish law you are allowed to fast although most women probably dont but I know a lot of orthodox women who do). If you dont want to observe passover thats another thing and up to you but i thought the OP was asking what the Jewish Law was and thats what it is.
