I'm a SAHM - I do get a break though bc DD is in pre-school a few hours a week. But when she isn't at school - I have not left her with anyone unless I had something specific to do. And my IL's live with us and they very rarely watch DD for me - I wish my mom lived closer - she would watch DD in a heartbeat if she was available.

I guess I am not as crazy as DH thinks I am!!!!

I know lots of SAHM's answered too, and I didnt mean to leave anyone out.... but as a working mom, I have such GUILT even though I get a lot of days off that I cant stand the thought of leaving her just so I can nap and watch TV. I think if I DID stay home, spending a day with Grandma would be a lot more likely just because they wouldnt see her as much and I wouldnt feel s guilty since I was home all the time.

Also, my mom and MIL watch her during the week so I also have guilt there that they help us out enough as it is.

Nope. DD is 15 months and the only time i've ever left her is to go to an app't.

Jen, my MIL/parents watch them while I work so on breaks I always have them. Like you, I feel like I can't wait to see them & also feel guilty b/c the parents watch them so often during the week.

Thing is, we have MAJOR things to do in the house to attempt to get ready for the new baby and I really probably should leave her this week. Im SO beyond overwhelmed about organizing things in her room (we need to repaint, rearrange furniture, toddler bed etc because they will share etc) but I hate taking time away from herChat Icon

Re: Any teachers out there that never take "breaks" from their kids during breaks?

Jen, I totally understand where you are coming from. Both my babies are in daycare from 8am until about 5, because I've been needing to stay late at school these last few weeks. (We're one of the bottom 3 performing schools in the state, Title I, under lots of scrutiny...but that's a whole other story).

That said...it took me a long time to get past the guilt of sending them to someone else when I theoretically COULD be watching them. But then I realized--it's possible to love them so much and still have a break from them. It's funny, because my DS (as you may or may not know) was the surprise of our lives after everything we went through to conceive DD. Life with 2 that are 18 months apart is pure insanity. Sometimes, when DD is sitting in her high chair, eating blueberries, watching her favorite Cookie Monster DVD, and I'm tending to DS, who is beginning to scoot around, I think to myself..."Wow, if I still had just one, I wouldn't be nearly so overwhelmed all the time". That's not to say that I don't love BOTH my kids...but as one of the OP said, you might change once #2 is born. Then again, you might not. You have to do what works for you.

As I said, I'm STILL coming to terms with the whole FTWM guilt thing. But I'm also realizing that I am a MUCH better mom when I have a day to myself every now and again.

And on that note...I hope you have a wonderful week off next week and enjoy your time with Sadie. We do not get a February break in NC--our next break is the 3rd week of April. Ugh. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Jen, drop her off here to get stuff done. Michael would love to see her. I don't have much going on Mon, Tues or Wed. I had to work at 5pm, so I am free with him all day. I am sure he'd love to show her his trains.

I am a first grade teacher, NEVER left DD w/ anyone and always felt I had to do "things" on the wekeends to make up for not being with her all week. NOW that I have DD 2.5 and DS 6months....I wouldnt mind a break. still adjusting to having two little ones. I am home alone most weekends with the two of them, dance, playdates, shopping etc. I have no help, little family here, and only my dad to help out once and a while...sorry for the vent. I think if i had help I would take it now w/ two.

I can probably count on one hand the times I've left DD or DS. Once I left DD with my BFF because I had to have a serious test done and another time I left both DC's with my BFF's when my Dad passed and I had to attend the service.

During breaks, I only make plans when my husband can watch them.

DD was in daycare for short period and when I had off, I never sent her.
