Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

Will your older child(ren) be there the day of discharge?

I'm trying to figure out if DH should bring DS (2.5) with him to pick us up when we get discharged from the hospital. Or if we should have him stay home with my parents.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

When my DD was born, it was back in 2009 when H1N1 was in full effect.

Anyone under the age of 18 was not allowed to visit the hospital so my DS wasn't even allowed to come see me.

He was not there when I was discharged. He was with my parents and they brought him back to our house to meet us there when we got home. Worked out perfectly for us.

I was thinking about this the other day, I actually would like for DD to come to the hospital with DH I want her to be a part of it. Although I could change my mind when the time comes for now I would like her to be with us.

I would have him stay home.. it's going to be hard enough on the little guy (to transition to having a sibling) as it is.. just leave him be.. :O)Chat Icon

I think it will be easier to have him stay home. He'll only be 19 months, so it's not like he'll really understand what is going on.

Landon was waiting at home for us. We had our niece there babysitting him and he knew we were bringing home the babies. He was waiting for us... too cute!

DD was 3 1/2 and she came to the hospital to pick us up as 1) I missed her so much I couldn't wait to see her and 2) we really didn't have anyone to leave her with.

When I had DD , my DH did bring my DS with him to the hospital to bring the baby home....It was very sweet because he helped drees the baby etc. and we got some really cute pics..

We actually are in a pickle this time because now DH would have to bring both DS and DD with him to the hospital and I'm afraid it might be too much Chat Icon ...But yet I'll feel bad if they aren't there Chat Icon

DS#1 was 15months at the time and we chose to have him stay home. I'm happy with that decision especially after seeing how long it took to get discharged. DS#1 would've been off the wall.

I'm not...DD is ultra attached to me, and I feel with me not being home for a a day or two and then seeing me in the hospital it's going to throw her...I may change my mind bc I'm going to miss her insanely but as of now I'd rather her just be at home and play

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

I did have my DD come to the hospital with DH to bring us home. She had just turned 3, and I wanted us to come home as a family. I figured it would help transition her to having a new sister too, that she was coming to "help" bring her home rather than having this new baby come "into" her house with her already there.

DD#1 was there when DD#2 was discharged. This time I might leave the girls with my dad until we get home.

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

so funny that you posted this today.... I was actually up @ 3am thinking about this exact thing....

not to hijack the post - but just to add...

For those of you that kept DC @ home - how did they take it? was it a good transistion?

In hindsight would you make the same choice??

Daddy and DS brought mommy breakfast and they came to pick 'the girls' up.Chat Icon I got a few good pictures of DS with DD without everyone else around. It was nice it being just the 4 of us together for the first time!

My sister had DS all day, DH and I brought DD home (well we took her to Target first Chat Icon) and just relaxed for a few hours before she brought him home. He was excited to see us and could not have cared less about DD Chat Icon

Every kid is different, and you know Ryan best. How do you feel he will react more positively? "Helping" you bring the babies home, or being home (in his comfort zone) already when you arrive? Chat Icon

DS1 came to bring DS2 home - we wanted him to be part of the "bringing home baby" ritual Chat Icon

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

I think I will probably have my ILs wait for us at our house instead of bringing him to the hospital. i remember bringing DS home and it took awhile to get the paperwork done, get DS all set, get DS to stop crying, and get home! So I think he would be happier at home and not waiting for us.

I don't think so. I think my parents will stay home with them and me and DH will bring the baby home alone. It will just be too much with them thre!

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

When we brought Sean home Alex was 20 months.. Tom brought Alex with him and we hung out in the hospital room until my discharge (which took a few hours.. i had some last minute complication that we had to wait for test results for) This time I think we'll leave the boys with the grandparents

Re: Moms pregnant with #2 or more...

I have not even thought about this yet. I really dont know. I will miss DD like crazy while I am in the hospital esp since I will be there a few nights. I know she will visit and all but it might be nice to come home as a family. Maybe I will have my mom bring her just as we are about to leave? We are 5 minutes from the hospital so that might work.

I didn't bring Jack up when we got discharged. I wasn't sure how long it would take so I didn't want him getting cranky.
