How long did you BF for?

My DD is 3 months old and so far is EBF. I started back to work last week and the pumping has been a challenge, but I appeciate the time nursing her when I get home even more now. So I'm just curious how long you BF for? TIA

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

DD BF until she just turned 3 - at that stage she was only feeding a little at night for comfort. I EBF her for 6 months, introduced solids and continued to BF her until she turned 3.

DS is 18mths and the pattern is the same for him - EBF for 6 months, then more BF with solids and he is still BF.

Neither child every took a bottle of either formula or reg milk - they only ever took BM.

I started BF DD in Feb 2006 and have been BF ever since except for a brief 4 months between DD weaning fully and DS being born.

DD is 20 mos and still bfs. I never thought I would last 4 weeks. I only work part time so I never really HAD to pump. I stink at that, I just can't relax and never would've lasted if I was working ft.

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

11 months 2 weeks. I got sick and really needed to be on meds and so I had to stop 2 weeks short of my goal. I wound up in the hospital anyway so I would have had to stop in another week.

I EBF for 4 months.. then he got solids and only bm.. then I used formula at 8 months. Just an ounce a day to start and it increased from there. A few reasons. I got my first af at 6 months and my supply plummeted 2 times a month. I went back to work at 5 months and was pumping and my body just never responded well to the pump. I tried different horns and every herb and tea on earth.. nothing worked.

His daytime bottles by 11 months were only about 2 ounces bm and the rest was formula. I was sooo dissapointedChat Icon

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

My son turned 1 three weeks ago and is still BFing. Right after he turned 1, he dropped himself to only a morning and bedtime nursing. Then all last week he was sick with that awful stomach virus and refused to eat any food, but wanted to nurse all day long, about 7 times a day or so. Now that he's all better, he is nursing 3 times a day. I have no timeframe in mind for stopping, I am just taking his lead.

DS will be 16 months old in a few days and I'm still BFing! I don't plan to stop until he does.

Compared with the ladies on this thread, I am a total BF loser! Chat Icon

I BF my older DD for 3 mos. I returned to work (where pumping was impossible) and tried to continue in the afternoons/evenings. My body didn't want to work that way and so it ended.

I BF my younger DD for 6 mos.

Now, my DS is 3.5 mos. and our BF time is drawing to a close. I planned to make it through the winter entirely, but he is down to eating four times a day and again, my body isn't cooperating. We are currently weaning and will probably make it to the end of the month...so 4 mos. total.

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

DS is 8.5 months and we're still BFing, so I chose 7-9 months on the poll. We will continue to BF until he weans himself, or 2 years old (at the latest). I'm aiming for 2 under 2, and I want to be done BFing him before I have DC#2. I'm dedicated, but not THAT dedicated (to do tandem nursing) Chat Icon

Just to clarify, because I'll be having more children and BFing (hopefully) right until the next one is born, not BFing DS until he's 6 Chat Icon

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

Both DD's never took a bottle.

DD1 was EBF until she was 16 months

DD2 just turned 16 months and we are still EBFing. I just dropped another feeding (1st thing in the morning)... but she still BFs before nap and bedtime.

I'm in the process of weaning Chat Icon

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

DS is 7.5 months and still going. We are at 4 times a day sometimes one more.

I plan on going to a year then start to wean. However long it takes to wean him is fine with me. Chat Icon

ETA: DS hardly ever has a bottle and when he does its always pumped BM. I don't pump much at all. Only if I know I have to leave him for a few hours. I had a decent stash but AF came and tanked my supply so I went through most of it and the rest I had to toss because it was past the 4 months in the freezer.

DS is 11.5 months old and still going strong. We will definitely keep nursing until he self weans or until #2 comes along when we decide to TTC again.

Re: BFing Moms...just curious...

DS is 6 months and I have BF and pumped so far. I typically BF first thing in the morning in bed (it is our snuggle time together). The rest of his feedings are usually pumped bottles. Although the pumping is more time consuming and can be a PITA at times... it has worked best for us (I am a very quantitative person and like seeing how much he is drinking). My original goal was 6 months. I made it this far so my new goal will be 10 months. 12 months will be absolute cutoff. If I can give regular milk at 10 I might cash in early Chat Icon
