misery-is it colic

up until 6 weeks my ds was an angel.Once he hit 6 Weeks it was all down hill. He screams like bloody murder all freakin day. Sometime while feeding him he screams, prob doesnt help that he is a stinky burper. As long as Im holding him he isnt screaming. Its taken such a toll on me and dh and worst part is I go bac to work in a week. I ffel baad fort him, i feel like a failure as a mother, he just looks miserable. when he isnt screaming (for the 2 minutes) he has his brow bushed together and just looks ******. We changed him from similac advanced to good start gentle ease which he did awful with, he hated it wouldnt eat then was upset from hunger, then we switched to similac sensitive which seems like a tiny improvement. ugh so upset

You are not a bad Mommy, this is all new to you and your DH and you are learning.

We kind of went through something similar and it turned out DS had acid reflux and needed to be put on meds.

We also switched formula a good 5X and ended up having to put him on a Enfimal Nutramigen which is a hypoallergenic one. Once he was on the right formula and meds, he was a 100% different baby and we never looked back.

Did you talk to your Ped about this? I can tell you that we were there every week and sometimes 2X a week, so as a new parent don't feel like you can't call them for advice.

We also switched formula a good 5X and ended up having to put him on a Enfimal Nutramigen which is a hypoallergenic one. Once he was on the right formula and meds, he was a 100% different baby and we never looked back.

Did you talk to your Ped about this? I can tell you that we were there every week and sometimes 2X a week, so as a new parent don't feel like you can't call them for advice.

You are NOT a failure as a mommy! Colic is ROUGH. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy (or the kids of my worst enemies). We went through this starting at 6 weeks, too. But for us it was all night, not all day.

We eventually switched to Similac Alimentum (which is the equivilant to Enfamil's Nutramigen that the PP mentioned, I believe). It helped a bit, but in the end we just had to wait it out. It was awful, and we got little to no sleep, but we just ended up taking shifts all night so one or the other of us could rest.

I would take him to the ped. just to rule out anything else. I think my
DD's colic stemmed from acid reflux, but for her, the meds didn't make much of a difference. It's definitely worth a shot though, I'm sure you're willing to try anything at this point!

You are NOT a failure as a mommy!!! Things will get better! I've noticed on here that a lot of babies start showing colicky symptoms around 6 weeks. It happened for us then too. DS was diagnosed with a milk & soy protein allergy & reflux. I chose not to put him on meds, but to keep him upright instead. From that point on he was never flat on his back, even for diaper changes. I also eliminated all dairy & soy out of my diet because I'm BFing and it got better within days! I would go to the ped to check for blood in the stool, you may have to switch formulas. Good luck!

my dd started doing the same thing however she was spittng up ALOT also, After changing her formula 4 times & going threw 3 differnt bottles, we are finally on enfimil nutramigen & using Playtex drop in bottles and shes taking Axid for AciReflux and she is a totally differnt child now!
I would talk with your ped they should have some advice for you, but u are not a bad mommy! You are doing a great job its just so hard when ur baby cries and there is nothing you can do to help them. Stay strong you'll get threw it!

DS got this way around 6w too, it lasted till around 12w, we pretty much got a good handle on it, once we knew what worked with him.

DS was like this from the start. Turns out it was Acid Reflux and colic.

We went through 5 different formula changes before getting to Similac Alimentum which was the winning formula for us.

So many people told us to go straight to this one - but we were new parents and wanted to follow the Dr's advice. We should have listened to others - it would have saved DS at least a month and a half of screaming and pain.

I gave away so many bottles of unused formula that we no longer could use because DS was not doing good on them.

DS was also on Zantac & Mylanta - each 3 times a day.

I also switched the bottles from Dr. Browns to Playtex Ventaire (more $$ wasted...I have so many Dr. Brown bottles that I can't return - that were used a few times).

I made sure he was fed on the slow nipple - it was much better for him. He is still on the slow nipple. It's easier on his stomach. The feedings take a bit longer but he isn't in pain after, so thats what counts.

I also make sure he burps at least one big time - twice if he gave me a small first burp. This also makes a difference for him after he's done.

It will get better - DS just turned 5 months and he is a completely different baby. I know that seems so far off but it will get here.
