Star rebate...still exist?!?!
We were told that it doesn't exist anymore, yet on Mlsli.com, people are still claiming that there is still a discount on their taxes in the description!
Do any of you still get it?

I just said to my DH that we need to get on this! Can the form just be mailed by March 1st or have to be dropped off at the town?

you can do either, but if you mail it, send it certified. 
i'm hand-delivering mine, but only because I am paranoid..and my taxes are high.

My DH is furious right now...we were sent a letter 2-3 yrs ago (he is looking for that leter in our files as I type) that they were doing away with the program...so we havent been getting it for that long...and our taxes are SO high (bec it is a new construction) and we are considering moving bec of it...
We are in Nassau everywhere we look it says jan 3...We are calling first thing tomorrow morning to hopefully get somewhere with this! We could have been getting it for the last 3 years?!?!?! 
That S U C K S witha capital S!!
I hope it is not too late!  That would be a huge savings for us right now!

you should have until march 1....

with lots of info
the change in your taxes won't be immediate..I believe it will appear in December for 2012.
Have you also tried having your taxes grieved? I know you said it was new construction, so I'm not sure how much of a chance, if any, you'd have.

There are 2 things....
Star exemption in your taxes which still do exist
However there were a few years were some of us recd a check back from our property taxes, a rebate, not sure if it was star related. But I think that is gone now.

yeah..thank you...we found that link too! We are under the impresson the deadline was Jan 3rd! We are just pizzed that we never got a letter to re-apply if needed after our 1st and only time we got the rebate back in 2008.
And yes we try every year to grieve our taxes and we have not gotten anything...let's just say we are paying double what most people are paying for a 50 x 100 plot! Insane! My poor DH wants to move out of NY for that reason...and I am the one who wants to stay!

There is no longer a Star rebate check which used to be mailed out sometime in Sept/Oct. There is still the Star reduction in taxes.
